Why do people tell me i'm goth, skater, punk and emo just because i wear alot of black and listen to metal?

Answer #1

Labels are just a part of life, dont let it get too you. When you see a pretty girl with blonde hair and is all chippy, you think prep, you see a kid with glasses and is awkward, you think nerd, you see someone is all black and you think goth. Its not that big of a deal…just be who you are and who you want to be and dont worry about what people call you.

thanks :D

People these days like to stereotype. It’s terrible when you think about it, but it gives people categories and stability in their lives. Just ignore all of those people and listen to what YOU want to. Wear the clothes YOU like. If you change yourself for them, you aren’t being yourself :)

Answer #4

I have to agree with Mandyloo on this one! People are people & all people find it easier to stereo type like what she said…You see a bunch of girls go on & on about their make-up/nails or hair & you call them rich B** with fancy cars! You see guys with tattoos & all sorts of piercing & you auto think skater/metal head…same with guys & a laptop strapped on their back…that says nerd/geek/ comp tech!

Its not right, but it exists…you cant escape the way the world thinks & stereotyping peeps is just a part of human nature. Just be yourself & know in your heart that you are a good person, dont be run down by what you like or how you are used to a certain dress style…

Dont pay no mind to stigma’s…just have fun & have a great weekend!

Good Luck!

I have the same problem just because I wear eyeliner (which is stupid some people wear eyeliner) and because I listen to alot of different types of music like screamo ect, but all I say is I’m not here on earth to copy the way you act I’m here to live the way I want to and they basically shut up after that but don’t sweat it.

Answer #6

Same here, I hang out with people who wear black and we get called the exact same things. It’s dumb, but everyone is judgmental to some extent, people will automatically categorize someone the moment we see them.

Answer #7

dear god, i am so sorry.

people confusing the purity of metal with its counterpart… punk…

(old brawl that started in the 70s with the rise of metal and its rival punk. England, home of both at the time)

people are just unaware of certain details that set apart subcultures and other cultures altogether. in the way you dress there are other subcultures that tend to be similar in style and people by plain view group them together, regardless if they are “rival” subcultures. a cultural example would be, hatian americans and african americans, there are differences, many. but some person would offend very much a hatian by calling him african american. its the thing about being aware of certain parameters and such, just be tolerant when people call you whatever they do. it doesnt matter what they think, as long as you know who you are. labels are stupid, but at least they are good in letting us organize ourselves and let us see who else shares our views.

Answer #8

labels. i hate them.I know exactly what your going through. everyone says that about me. I mean why do they have to call it being emo? I like screamo and black and tutu’s and stripy socks but dont label me!
