Clingy Dog

I have an 8 month old puppy who is very clingy. When I quickly and completely leave the house especially if I givher a treat to distract her, she is fine. But if shenes is in her room (with the door open and a baby gate up) and she can sense I am in the house, she cries wines and yelps until I come see her… it’s so bad that I can barely take a shower because she causes such a ruckous! Also once I am with her, she needs to always be in my lap and cuddling to the point where I can barely eat without her trying to jump in my mouth or type on the computer without her sitting on it… today she even tried to hump my leg! I do not know what to do to help her to be a little independent so that I do not feel guilty and the people who live with me don’t get annoyed at me

I aggree with karlina marie. don’t let it continue. its still a baby but it has to learn not to. when she whines say no. when she tries to jump on you, say no and turn your back toher. usually people think that giving your dog a knee to the chest or pushing it off helps. it doesn’t it only reinforces the behavior. be dominant and consistent. you must be the pack leader.

DO NOT let this continue. its very easy to “over bond” a dog especially when it is a puppy. They are so little and cute that people want to hold and cuddle it all the time, but this can be bad. Your dog wont be able to function without you. some bad habits might develop, like nervous chewing when you leave or over active bladder. I would try some obedient classes. If she wines Don’t give her treats, and don’t give in to her.. this only teaches her that is she dose it its not only ok but she will be rewarded. Its ok to spend a lot of time with your animal, just make sure she knows who’s boss and that she understands she needs to listen. Over bonded animals can become nerves and depressed when their person leaves. Its not a good thing for dog, or human. I would try to correct it not before it gets any worse. Good luck!
