what should i do to clear my name ? i have recently been getting these letters from catalogues saying that i owe them money for goods i took, it has my name on it too. mind you i have never taken anything from catalogues in my life and they keep annoying me about paying bills i did not create. i took the letters to the police station and they told me to do a credit check so i know all the items that they want me to pay for and then they give me a letter to send to the catalogues companies. i called one of the companies and they told me that they got my information from the voters list and i explained to them that i have never ordered anything from them before and they said they would update it but letters are still coming to my house. i have receive about 10 letters now and they are form men catalogues ?(jamaco and reliable collectors) after doing this will it clear my name.. or if anyone know how to help me please answer.
Places that do catalog sales don't normally fill orders that haven't already been paid for. That makes me wonder whether these are real catalog companies, or a scam. For each such letter, call the company - not at a phone number you get from the letter, but one that you find for that company online or from toll-free directory assistance - and ask if the letter is legitimate. If it is, then ask for proof of purchase and delivery, as BadBoyVibes suggested. If the company says the letter is not really from them, turn it over to the police.
I have had situations like this before....and i have found if you are innocent then you have nothing to fear...Ask them for evidence that goods were received at your address,no evidence = no case.
