Can blisters form after spilling boiling hot water over your hand?

I just spilt boiling hot water over my hand but I have held it under cold water for a bit but it is still agony.. I have a valedictory service in a weeks time and I am worried I might have blisters all over my hand for it? :/

Answer #1

It can cause blisters. Keep running it under cold water. If you have some anti-burn ointment or aloe vera gel you should try that.

ok.. thank you.

Answer #3

Actually, the ointment and all that should go on after a few hours. Like Jan said, keep running it under water, but do not cover it. The heat has to escape from the area of the burn- and if you cover it, it won’t be able to. What you can also do is put your hand in a bowl of cold milk (it sounds crazy, i know, but it works great). Regardless. Keep it uncovered (ointment free) for a few hours… pretty much until the initial pain is gone. After that, keep an eye on it, but I think you should be ok. If it DOES blister, do not pop it, it’ll hurt like a mother-… last but not least, so sorry you burnt yourself. I hope you feel better.

Answer #4

If the area of your burn is more than a few square inches have a doctor look at it. If you got burned at work you should have a doctor look at it as well to protect both you and your employer. Most experts I know say that you should throw away the burn ointment that comes in first aid kits. Minor burns do not need ointment and if you put it on serious burns it will have to be removed painfully when a doctor treats you. Aloe Vera is the best thing I’ve found for minor burns. I snip a piece off of my plant and squeeze juice out or cut it open to lay on the burn. It can sting a little at first but it promotes healing faster than anything else I’ve tried.

Answer #5

yes u should get blisters but they should not last

Answer #6

Yes!!!

Answer #7

the bright side to this is…

  1. you learned to be carful with hot water
  2. you learned what helps burns for future problems and 3. your hand will get calises which will mean less pain felt on that hand.

these are good benifets. when i was little (3 years old) i didnt know any better and put both hands on a metal pot while it was on the stove and both hands got burn with blisters everywhere. now i am able to put hot glue from a hot glue gun onto the palm of my hand and not feel a thing. doctor say its just dead nerves. i say im just awesome like that. lolz
