How do I stop my dog from humping?

My dog has a humping problem. How do I stop her?

Answer #1

Yes he will stop after he gets used to her.

Answer #2

What if he is neutered though and he still humps everything everyday. It is starting to get annoying now and embarrasing when we have company. We try to distract him but he keeps going back to the humping. He is very persistent.

Answer #3

I think if you just dont let the dog mount up on you or just say no and push it down. Im not saying to go crazy and and start beating up the dog just give it a tap on the nose and say no. if that doesnt work it is just a phase so it will move on sooner or later my dog started to do it to.

Answer #4

My first question is this “Is your pet or pets nutered?” This sometimes does stop the problem. I had a 1 year old Bischon that was humping my other pets. I had him nutered and he stopped right away.

A 17 month old grandchild that knows about humping would really concern me. I would be talking to my kids about that situation. (the parents)

Answer #5

When dogs hump humans it’s not a sexual thing, the dog is just trying to make friends and show innocent affection.

Answer #6

I have a 5 month old doxen male that insists on humping my foot. Some friends of mine said they had the same problem and they found that a large stuffed animal worked well. I have not tried this yet, but if it works, at least he is humping the stuffed animal and NOT me!

Answer #7

Now my grandchild age 17 months tried to hump the dog!!! Not only that my grandson who plays with my turtle collection (plastic) placed them humping each other! YUCK

Answer #8

try drowning it in a bin.

Answer #9

I need some help too, I have a pug (9 months) and a husky (7 years) both males. my pug started humping my husky, and now my husky is going after my pug. my husky never humped anything until now…so strange…please help!!!

Answer #10

when she does it make sure you scold her and leave the room (or make her leave the room) so she knows you are displeased. She does it to try and show dominance over you so when she does it make her stop and yell at her, ESPECIALLY if she is a big dog, you want to make sure that she knows who is boss because you don’t want a big dog try to be in charge of you.

Answer #11

my dog got really humpy so I drowned it in a bag in my back garden and showed it to my other dog as a signal of intent. He now no longer humps.

Answer #12

dogs do this when showing their dominance over others, to correct them you need to be calm and assertive and I wuick tap at their necks should let you know that you don’t agree with what they are doing (especially when accompanied by a shap sound like ‘pssst’) you need to show them you’re boss.

Answer #13

Get your dog neutered, he will probably stop straight away. DON’T give him a female dog to ‘have sex with for fun’ because they only mate because it is their natural instinct to do so. Take away the urge by neutering and the dog will be happier and friendlier, and will stop humping things

Look up neutering on a well known dog website, it is perfectly safe and there are a lot of benefits, like your dog living longer, it is definately worthwhile

Answer #14

srry I dident put that

Answer #15

when female dogs hump she is telling you that she is the boss. It is a behaviour associated with dominance. It has to be stopped. Get your dogs done!!! x

Answer #16

it is a phase that all puppies grow out of or should, my dog did it a ton when he was a puppy just say no, and push him down

Answer #17

Answer #18

my dog keeps sticking his weener out and tries to hump my stuffed animal cow how do I stop it before it goes to far

Answer #19

Answer #20

Wow no one stated the actual reason that dogs hump each other besides the obvious. It has nothing to do with reproduction at all if the female is not in heat or ots 2 males or 2 females. It is establishing dominance. The dog humping is showing the weaker one dominance by degrading them. This is the real reason and a proven fact. To get them to stop is a tough one. The only way that works for me is just to get their attention and they stop for the time being but you have to be consistant and stick with the word your gonna say to stop it. Show that alpha dog that you are the alpha by not letting it hump the other dogs and they will get the hint eventually. Good Luck.

Answer #21

my small female papillon (10 months)is humping my foot right so hard she is panting for breath right now and wont stop, she is already in heat and has been humping everybody lately. is there any way she will stop?

Answer #22

give em what he wants

Answer #23

Lol dogs love humping the only thing I can say if whenever your dog humps something you could call the dog off it (if your dog follows instructions) lol.

Answer #24

you should probably get her spayed. my female used to do that a few days before she came into heat. please if your not going to use her for breeding or show spay her or you will end up with unwanted pups. but if you want pups and willing to give them your all to keep them safe and healthy thats kool too. just take care of her. hope I helped :)

Answer #25

Hello you are the master not the dog. You are the alpha dog. If you firmly say NO! or ATTT! and push the dog down or correct by putting it out or in it’s crate. It will stop.

Dogs are smart you can train them to stop this behavior just like any other. DO not let the dog do it. ALso keep your dog on a leash with you when you are training, in the same room with you. This is how you train.

Would you let a child do this? No. train your pet.

Answer #26

actually it is very hard! I have two dogs and both hump. One is not as bad. Just today i saw my puppy humping the other older dog.. Really i dont think you can fix it. When i do see them humping i spank them! Good luck need more advice fun-mail me!

Answer #27

My dog is 1 year old. He was neutered at 6 months old. Started humping other dogs at the dog park around 3 months ago. The vet said that it is a dominance thing and he should outgrow it. “Should” is the opperative word here. In the meantime, I just fpush him off the other dog and firmly tell him “No”. This seems to be working. He attempts to hump less and less each time we go to the park.

Answer #28

I don’t know how to stop your dogs from “humping”, but I have a cat that does the same thing. SPANKING is NOT a way to train/punish your pet. They don’t understand why you are hitting them, and it will either make them aggressive, or withdrawn. NEVER hit your pet! Ask your vet what is the best way to discipline your animals! Good Luck!

Answer #29

I’d like to know also ! My dog a 3yr.12lb female recently started humping the 2yr.10lb female cat. It gets on my nerve because the cat mews loud. But then I saw her once hump the dog. Is it because of the hot weather. We live in Michigan.

Answer #30

you can not and I mean do not let it continue I have a 2yr old male boxer who started to hump me 2 months ago it was my girlfriends dog she said dont worry it will wear off its not a cold women but you have ot stop it before it becomes a habit. and you will not get those stains out.

Answer #31

get it like a stuffed animal and let it hump away

Answer #32

Had the same problem with my 62 lb. male Huskey. My vet presribed 50cc.twice a day to calm him down UNTIL I could get him in to be neutered! Poor guy…they will go through phases and continue until neutered. Now he is VERY calm.

Answer #33

I just brought home a 4 month old female puggle. My 3 year old male beagle (neutered) won’t leave her alone. I was a little surprised at the male. He was neutered at about five months of age and he has never tried mounting anything before. I understand it is probably just the dog showing that he is dominant, but will he ever stop???

Answer #34

I spoke with my vet about it and if your pet is nueterd or spayed it is a dominance behavior issue. His advice was to us a squirt gun or bottle you need to have a deterrent. My dog is sensitive and you cannot spank him but this seemed like helpful advice.

Answer #35

The Humping of altered animals is just the way they establish dominance. They are saying I am the boss. It does not matter whether its male or female. This is not a human/sex thing lolol This is how animals establish themselves. If they are humping a human it is for the same reason.

Answer #36

I have a 6 month jack russell. I am taking training classes with him and I was told to roll him and correct as soon as I see that behavior because it is never a sexual act at his age, but rather a show of dominance.

I was thought the roll over technique which I swear by now. You roll on back placing 2 fingers at neck where a mother would place her mouth, the other 2 fingers on the belly. Never with force or with anger always with calmness displaying a correction gently but assertive. He is to stop eye contact and basically relax and calm down. You hold down by saying “NO” , not a scream but a strong no. At first it takes a while a few minutes they will struggle but you keep calm and continue , DO NOT LET HIM ESCAPE YOU! He is to stay under your thumb till complete surrender and it must be done calmly always giving direct eye contact till he looks away and is relaxed. Once he is totally calm, looking away, almost in a state of rest do you release by saying ok you can go. You will see that after each time he will understand what you expect of him and the respect is unbelievable. My 10 yr old has mastered this technique and our jack russell no longer dares to do that to him or anyone entering our home. Good luck, this works but you must be as calm as you want him to be. good luck
