What would you do in an office environment a tensions are running high?

Everyone in the office seems to be irritable and snippy. Just for context, there’s only two people in my department who are not therapists. I don’t deal well with conflict, and I seriously don’t know what to do but duck.

as they say: dance can calm a psycho.

id put some music on and have a dance.

even if you cant dance you still get up and have a dance as it unwinds you :)

music, as they say will calm a lot.. even if its just low, classical stuff just put it on cus it’ll calm a lot.

Personally I find it quite humorous that an office full of therapists cannot get along. LOL Office environments are tough because there is limited space for avoidance. Offices are notorious for their cliques and it takes some effort to navigate the daily grind without committing to one. Whenever I get into a situation that there seems to be no way out of, I try to not get involved. The first thing I do is not own it; that is I don’t take anything that is said personally. (You aren’t being paid to argue with anyone). Second, change the subject by asking a question and complimenting the person at the same time. Example: I really like your shoes, where did you get them? It is best to respond without any pause, like you didn’t really hear what they said, and just like you were looking for an opportunity to ask. What I have found is that you engage then in a different conversation or they look at you a little funny and walk away. (Like I said don’t take anything personal). The third thing is to sit back and watch the fun; it is always a learning experience of what to do’s and what not to do’s.

I’d say stay busy. If you can get some extra work to do, take it on. The more focused you are on work, the less you’ll notice the tension in the office.
