FunAdvice Advice from: sk_tennyson http://www.funadvice.com/my/advice/sk_tennyson en-us Re: Am I fat like my Mom says? You're not fat at all. The average for the women in the US is a 14. I'm 5'5 and 170. Although I just had a baby, my pre-pregnancy weight was about 140-150 (I don't have a scale). Also, I'm in the military and work out a lot. Before I joined the military I was 120 and a size 4. I didn't look healthy nor did I feel healthy. I feel great now and thats all that matters when it comes to your weight. If you are in a "healthy" range for your BMI and you FEEL GOOD thats all that you should care about. Your mom is vain and your friend is absolutely right. sk_tennyson Sun, 27 Jan 2008 20:51:10 -0800 http://www.funadvice.com/q/am_i_fat_1610 202749 Re: Is it normal to be this skinny? its not common for men to have thyroid conditions but I recommend having it checked. hyperthyroidism and cause osteoporosis, high blood pressure, heart disease and lots of other things. and not when you are old... in your 30s if its bad! sk_tennyson Fri, 18 Jan 2008 15:30:24 -0800 http://www.funadvice.com/q/this_normal 192205 Re: How to lose weight if I have a bad knee? I got hurt in the military and cant do much cardio. I've got a nerve disorder in my left leg. upper body workouts are still easy to do... pullups, sit ups, crunchs, push ups, and weight training machines work too. a bench press wont hurt that knee. ps my husband broke his knee 3 times in the army and broke a titanium pin and spring in it... his still fit as the day he was honorably discharged. its not impossible you just have to have the drive to do it. (he hasnt stopped eating less at all either! if you can walk or bike do as much as you can) sk_tennyson Fri, 18 Jan 2008 15:27:57 -0800 http://www.funadvice.com/q/i_want_to_lose_weight_but_can_t_really 192201 Re: How to lose weight living in a small, cold town? I live in north dakota and right now its -35 wind chill...layer up. wear long sleeves, pants on top and a face mask. RUN RUN RUN!! one you start running you wont be cold. but dont start to sweat or you will get wet and cold... peel off layers as you start to sweat. dont say you cant work out because its cold... there are TONS of routines you can do inside that are still effective. sk_tennyson Fri, 18 Jan 2008 15:23:53 -0800 http://www.funadvice.com/q/please_tell_me_what_i_can_do_to_loose 192193 Re: How can I learn to run again? I would try the Small Business Association. I just opened my own self defense business online. alloutselfdefense.com. I used homestead.com as my webhost. sk_tennyson Fri, 18 Jan 2008 15:04:42 -0800 http://www.funadvice.com/q/how_do_i_46 192175 Re: Can I get a mortgage with bad credit? I suggest you take him to the vet and have in actually diagnosed with separation anxiety. We thought our beagle springer had SA but really he needed more space!! We gave him to someone who could provide that. You should also crate train him. He could need his own "den" so to say. One more thing. Pits are a working breed. They need a JOB! Give him one like getting that tasty treat out of the kong! PLEASE bring him to a vet!! (some dogs actually require medication but not many! try other options before resorting to medication) sk_tennyson Sun, 13 Jan 2008 21:15:52 -0800 http://www.funadvice.com/q/how_can_i_get_my_dog_to_stop_lookin 187138 Re: How to handle three crazy kids? Ya know, I have tons of advice for this BUT I've learned it all from Super Nanny! I highly suggest you stop asking online for help. Because this has most likely been going on for YEARS you will need the help of a professional. By the way, is it all 3 at each other or maybe 2 on 1? I do recommend consistancy! In my personal opinion, I think kids fight because they havent learned respect. I have 7 brothers and a sister. I can tell you I had NO respect for anyone, not even myself. Not until the US Army taught me did I know the true meaning of Respect! ALSO! I have read a great book called 1,2,3 Magic. It is a parenting book if you've got the time to read it. If you can be absolutely consistant with it, it will absolutely work! It worked for my siblings after I moved out! But you have to be a consistant person or it will NEVER work. I still recommend a professional but if you dont want to go that far 1,2,3 Magic is great. STICK WITH IT!! : ) sk_tennyson Sun, 13 Jan 2008 21:05:37 -0800 http://www.funadvice.com/q/crazy_kids 187131 Re: How can we have a baby? LISTEN TO LEX_ICON! I know Sgt_Harris personally! Harris is absolutely right! In my own opinion, I've always told my younger friends to start with a plant. Then get a pet. If the pet is still alive because of your responsibility (not your parents) then reconsider a baby. sk_tennyson Sun, 13 Jan 2008 20:57:39 -0800 http://www.funadvice.com/q/can_you_please_help_us 187126 Re: Do male babies get more of the father's genes than female ones? I've always said that a why chromosome is just an X with a missing piece! Its the sex determination chromosome! It carries all of the father dna. the egg has all of the mothers dna. when they meet some stuff cancels out other stuff doesnt. Whats left is half moms and half dads! My drill instructor always said KISS! Keep it simple stupid BTW babies can have characterisic (physical and emotional) for generations past! (so thats where the green eyes came from! great great great great grandma june who I've never even met!) sk_tennyson Sun, 13 Jan 2008 20:52:11 -0800 http://www.funadvice.com/q/do_baby_boys_get_more_of_the_fathers 187120 Re: What if my friend wants to give me her baby? Practice saying all the names in every tone of voice you could use with you child in every life stage! Yelling a first and middle name for example... when I was in trouble my mom would always say KAY LEE MARIE!!! BTW Consider INITIALS when choosing a name. Like Icabod Charels Patterson (ICP) or Patricia Emily Emmerson (PEE)!!! My stepmother almost named her son Brogan. It would have been ok have their last name not been GLASS. Could you imagine Brogan (broken) Glass!! sk_tennyson Sun, 13 Jan 2008 20:42:26 -0800 http://www.funadvice.com/q/baby_name_struggles 187111 Re: Can a teenager breastfeed? The production of breast milk is stimulated after a woman has passed all of her afterbirth (the nastly smelly bloody stuff after a baby is born). Until then the body only produces colostrum. That is the "leak" before actual lactation. It's choc full of anti-bodies and vitamins for wee one. If you are lactating without being pregnant SEE A DOCTOR! sk_tennyson Sun, 13 Jan 2008 20:37:33 -0800 http://www.funadvice.com/q/breastmilk 187105 Re: How do I raise a baby? PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE Dont take to heart the negative things people say. But listen to advice. You don't have to follow it, just listen. Its hard. It sucks. Its hard some more and spatulahandle is completely right! Get help! Don't lose your baby because times are hard! CPS will not let a child be in a bad situation anymore! Get the help you need for anyone and everyone you can! sk_tennyson Sun, 13 Jan 2008 20:32:08 -0800 http://www.funadvice.com/q/how_do_i_923 187103 Re: Can I switch her from soy formula right to milk? You never give a child any milk (cows goats or whatever) before 1 year! Some parents wait longer. Because she is on SOY you may want to give her whole fat Soy milk! It is available! Humans are not meant to digest lactose sugar after weaning anyways. If you are giving her cows milk switch slowly or she could get a tummy ache and it'll be a while before you hear the end of it! Definetly call your pediatrician and see what the good doc has to say. Either way DR will discuss it with you at her one year checkup before the shots! My son is 7 months old. My mother gave me cows milk at just a few weeks old up until, well, forever. She never did understand why I was colicy! I'm choc full of baby info so ask away! sk_tennyson Sun, 13 Jan 2008 20:24:48 -0800 http://www.funadvice.com/q/soy_formula_to_milk 187101 Re: What do you think of these baby names? My husband & I had a couple names and not until we SAW our son did we decide his name was Alexander Liam. Sometimes, you just dont know! sk_tennyson Sun, 13 Jan 2008 20:18:50 -0800 http://www.funadvice.com/q/baby_names_again 187094 Re: Is it stupid to want a baby when I'm 15? You should most definetly get a plant. If the plant lives a years, get a dog. If the dog lives long enough to see you graduate, get married. If your husband makes it throught the "terrible twos" of marriage, TALK about having a baby. If he would make a poor father, you shouldnt have married him in the first place! Anyways... start with a plant and then a dog. If they live, then reconsider a baby. sk_tennyson Sun, 13 Jan 2008 20:16:20 -0800 http://www.funadvice.com/q/baby_79821 187090 Re: How can you tell if you going to a baby the morning after? You can't. A doctor can't even tell you the MORNING after. Maybe a week later but not the morning after. You need time for your bodies HcG levels to rise to the point that a chemical test (pee stick) or a blood test (doctor) will be able to read it. You can predict it using a basal thermometer BEFORE you are actually pregnany. My boobs started to hurt 2 weeks after I got pregnant, thats how I knew. Many pregnancy tests can tell you if you are up to a week before your missed period. $10 isn't a lot to spend to know if a wee one is on the way! sk_tennyson Sun, 13 Jan 2008 20:12:41 -0800 http://www.funadvice.com/q/how_can_you_tell_if_you_going_to 187082 Re: Is it a bad idea to have a baby after high school? It sounds like you already have your mind made up. I'm twenty, married, and have a 7 month old son. I stay home with him every day. My husband and I are both also Army veterans. I promise you, you will not want to go to college after you have a child. You wont want to leave him for even a second! You also will never be able to provide for your child if you dont have an education higher that HS! You need a skill, trade, or anything on that little piece of paper from a school. Go to technical college. Get a degree in something!! There are many degrees that take less than 2 years if you go through the summer! By then you should have a lot of the needed baby gear (probably not extras like exersaucer, playmats and such) , have your prenatal costs saved(about $3000.00!) and maybe even a college savings started! Give him the very best head start you can give him. Don't just give him the basics. (or her!) My husband and I made sure that we would be stable for the next 20 years for our son. I wanted my son to be proud of me and want to grow up to be just like his daddy. I didn't want him to see us stuggling just for the neccessities and say he didnt want to grow up like us. Could you imagine if your little one felt that way? One more thing. For some reason, this is prime time for the, shall we say, "need to breed" to kick in. I dont know why. If you need more help I would suggest that you make appointments at WIC, La Leche League, and with a highly recommended OBGYN to discuss what you are feeling and the best thing to do. All of these people will help in a different way and will be HAPPY to do so!! sk_tennyson Sun, 13 Jan 2008 20:08:40 -0800 http://www.funadvice.com/q/im_almost_18_and_want_a_baby 187073 Re: Is a baby expensive? I'm 20 and my husband and I found out a week after week were married (go figure) that we were having a baby. you can just count BABY care. what about MOMMY care. my insurance only covered part of maternaty care and didnt cover pain killers so I was left with a $400 bill the day my son was born even though I prepaid everything! If you have insurance you can expect to pay about $2000 depending where you live JUST for prenatal care. then more if you need a c section or pain killers! Then include health insurance for JR and immunizations and ER sick visits! Add that to the previous posts! Also, we used cloth diapers until we moved when he was 3 months old and it saves us a bundle!!! My newborn pooped and peed every 2 hours at least! cloth isnt so bad... toss in a pail and wask every morning! If you dont plan to sell them when your done they are awesome when you run out in the middle of the night, need a rag or burp cloth, or just dont want to leave the house!!! sk_tennyson Sun, 13 Jan 2008 19:55:53 -0800 http://www.funadvice.com/q/is_a_baby_expensive 187061
