FunAdvice Advice from: mikishots http://www.funadvice.com/my/advice/mikishots en-us Re: How to get my husband to understand my decision Ouch - you may want to read up on this a bit more. CPM's (Certified Professional Midwives) still do attend home births, but this is not considered unattended. The stipulations are that they cannot accept insurance coverage, and there is no legal recourse for parents who believe she was negligent. That coupled with the fact that unattended births are misdemeanors in many states, but are largely unenforceable. Water births are a different story, because the mother cannot lie about the baby "coming so fast that I had no choice". This is more than just a philosophical point. How would you feel if there was a complication resulting in the death of the child? Would you say "Oh, well, it's how nature works"? How would your husband feel if it resulted in YOUR death? No wonder he's apprehensive. Of course it's your choice, don't get me wrong - but consider your husband's thoughts in this scenario. He has valid reasons for what he thinks. And remember, this is "funadvice.com". We won't put up with someone asking for advice and then ranting because they received an answer they didn't want to hear. mikishots Mon, 16 Jun 2008 23:15:46 -0700 http://www.funadvice.com/q/how_to_get_my_husband_to_understand 386591 Re: tootsie pops!!! If you already have the blister and need to get rid of it quickly: 1. Wash your foot in the morning. 2. Sterilize a pin or needle and lance it from the side, towards the center of the blister. 3. Gently press out the fluid. 4. Apply some polysporin and cover it tight with a bandage during the day. Leave it uncovered overnight so it can dry. mikishots Mon, 16 Jun 2008 22:47:30 -0700 http://www.funadvice.com/q/getting_rid_of_blisters 386571 Re: How many times is it possible to fold a newspaper in half? Newspaper, no more than seven or eight times. But eight is easily exceeded with much larger sheets. Google it, it's been proven ad nauseum, even saw it done on public TV. It's an old wive's tale. mikishots Mon, 16 Jun 2008 22:43:45 -0700 http://www.funadvice.com/q/help_237807 386570 Re: How the heck can anyone drink coffee black? Does that frustrate you? It is standard business for live performers, especially those with younger fan-bases. Of course, having said that, the Rolling Stones don't. But they should. mikishots Mon, 16 Jun 2008 22:33:58 -0700 http://www.funadvice.com/q/does_hannah_montana_and_the_jonas 386564 Re: Help with driving To be perfectly honest, don't worry about it for another two years- it is very easy to learn. Pick up a booklet at the DMV and read it. Why not enroll in a driver training school? Most schools issue your license through them. The real trick is continuing to practice once you have the license. The moment you get that little card is NOT the end of your training. It's simply the beginning of it. Your first hydroplaning incident, your first patch of black ice, your first deer road-kill, your first flat tire at highway speeds...they can't teach that in Driver's Ed. It is to be savored in real-time. Ahhh, the excitement that's in store for you, my friend. Good times. I am envious. mikishots Mon, 16 Jun 2008 22:31:27 -0700 http://www.funadvice.com/q/help_with_driving 386558 Re: Helping to induce labor Castor oil. Honda scooters, motorcycles and Civics are. Honda Pilots; not so good. mikishots Mon, 16 Jun 2008 22:21:27 -0700 http://www.funadvice.com/q/are_hondas_good_on_gas 386543 Re: Manual versus automatic transmission Automatic transmission cars have a gas pedal and a brake pedal - that's it as far as pedals go. When the gas is depressed, the engine engages the transmission through fluid friction. The harder you press, the faster the engine runs. This in turn engages the transmission more forcefully, and the car picks up speed. Manual transmission cars have the same two pedals, but also have a clutch. The engine is connected to the drive-train (the parts that turn the wheels) when the clutch is not pushed in; press on the gas and the car goes faster. If you want to change gears, you push in the clutch - this temporarily disconnects the engine from the drive-train, allowing you to select another gear. The you let the clutch back out, and the engine is now re-connected to the drive-train using different gearing (faster, slower, or reverse). You're fifteen - learn to drive on a manual (standard) car. Learn to drive that and you can then easily drive an automatic. Learn to drive an automatic only, and you've created a set of problems for yourself. Let's say your friend is completely wasted and asks you to drive him home in his car. Oops, it's a standard, you only know how to drive automatic. Your other drunk friends say, "Hey, we'll drive you home". He gets in, and you find out later that they got into an accident. Learn on a standard. mikishots Mon, 16 Jun 2008 22:19:04 -0700 http://www.funadvice.com/q/manual_versus_automatic_transmission 386541 Re: Harvard, yale, princeton, etc. They are expensive, but the real hard part is that they can afford to be very selective about who attends. They have a very long history of producing top students. This is not by chance - they make sure that the students they admit are exceptionally bright. If not, they can still get in if they are wealthy (works just like everything else in life, no surprises there). The reputation of the school (and the funding, grants and financial support they receive) depends on this. mikishots Mon, 16 Jun 2008 22:08:47 -0700 http://www.funadvice.com/q/harvard_yale_princeton_etc 386530 Re: Stopping the need to throw up? Well, if it's from motion sickness, dramamine or hyoscine (Gravol and other drugs like it). If it's not from that, your body is trying to get your attention; something isn't right. Keep an eye on it, K? Try a cup of green tea or something else warm and watery. mikishots Mon, 16 Jun 2008 22:02:26 -0700 http://www.funadvice.com/q/stoping_the_need_to_throw_up 386524 Re: Anyone like coffee? I only drink it at work (and it sucks there - don't know why I keep drinking it). The hardest part are weekends and holidays, because I get headaches from caffeine withdrawal. Obviously, I drink it for stress control rather than taste - how bad is that? mikishots Mon, 16 Jun 2008 21:55:44 -0700 http://www.funadvice.com/q/anyone_like_coffee 386519 Re: Is it wrong for my cousin to date my ex? He's your ex. The only one that has an issue is you. Unfortunately, it isn't any of your business anymore. mikishots Mon, 16 Jun 2008 21:53:49 -0700 http://www.funadvice.com/q/should_i_be_mad_with_my_cousin_to 386516 Re: Why are people so offended by the word "ignorant"? Because it also means "unaware or uninformed". This has a much more personal angle on it because it doesn't simply mean lack of knowledge ( I know nothing about astrophysics; does this make me an ignorant person?); it can mean that the person has somehow been exposed to the facts but is too uneducated or slow to understand them. So, rather than just being a simple solitary definition of "lacking knowledge", it can be taken as a very harsh insult. mikishots Mon, 16 Jun 2008 21:52:08 -0700 http://www.funadvice.com/q/ignorance 386511 Re: Do people deserve a second chance ? Sure they do. If you feel that they don't, that's like saying that no-one is allowed to make a mistake. What's the point in learning from mistakes if it won't make a difference? mikishots Mon, 16 Jun 2008 21:43:34 -0700 http://www.funadvice.com/q/second_chance_5611 386503 Re: How to repair a broken camara lense 9 times out of 10, consumer lenses from brands like Sanyo are not repaired at the shop - they will tell you that the price to fix it would be more than the value of the camera. These cameras are mass-produced, and replacement parts for repairs are not feasible. mikishots Mon, 16 Jun 2008 21:34:34 -0700 http://www.funadvice.com/q/how_to_repair_a_broken_camara_lense 386497 Re: Am I allergic to tomatoes? More than likely you have a sensitive stomach to tomatoes - they are very acidic. Have you ever had ulcers before? I cannot eat tomatoes either, so the pasta I eat is with cream sauces like Alfredo. You could consider trying an over the counter medication like Zantac or Pepcid. If your stomach feels OK after eating tomatoes, then there's your answer. mikishots Mon, 16 Jun 2008 21:32:33 -0700 http://www.funadvice.com/q/how_to_get_rid_of_acne_on_your_back 386494 Re: Blow jobs. Well, if you're not expecting a tree for a few years, plant it in the ground. If you are actually wanting a tree for cherries, best to use a grafted root-stock or small tree from a nursery. Remember, cheery trees need winters - they are deciduous. And you'll need at least two trees, because of pollination requirements. mikishots Wed, 11 Jun 2008 15:07:09 -0700 http://www.funadvice.com/q/grow_cherry_tree_from_seed 380083 Re: Does anyone actualy know Rhianna's surname?
