Re: Why don't vegans eat animal products?

watch "Peaceable Kingdom"! I never used to understand why vegans saw eating meat and animal byproducts as morally wrong until I saw this video. it almost made me cry!...and I dont usually cry! now I am trying my hardest to transition into veganism...its hard but I know its worth it becaus I am saving lives of animals that have hearts and feel just like us.

Re: Calories in a tamarind?

okay so for anyone who wants to know each pod has about 5 calories. possible benefits of eating them are they can help clean out kidneys and are very filling. I get full off of eating a few...and they arent even that large! they also have a very tart sweetness, but suprisingly only have about 1 or 2 sugars per pod! mmm tasty!

Re: Do I need to weight lift to lose weight?

if you really dont want to build muscle, dont weight lift. but I think weight lifting is great because it boosts your metabolism a lot more than just cardio, and for a long period of time. this means that more than likely you will not only be burning calories and fat while you are lifting weights, but when you are resting( sitting, laying, not exercising) as well. this is because the more muscle you have the more calories your body requires to burn in order to keep that muscle. you may think the more muscle you have the bulkier you will be, but this is NOT TRUE...why? because muscle literaly takes up less space than fat., which means you will look leaner AND more sculpted. you dont get bulky unless you eat a TON and take supplements meant for bulking up. some people react to weight lifting differently and say they feel bulkier a tiny bit but only right after they lift...this is b/c your muscles have been tearing and repairing so they enlarge a bit, but you will find they will "deflate" or loosen within an hour or so afterwards, esp. if you stretch.

if you decide to do weights you should only do them 2-3 times a week...id say like every other day. this is so your muscles have time to recover and so that they have time to repair(if they have time to repair, more than likely they will grow. muscles require more and more calories/fat to burn as they grow which is good.)

also weight lifting, contrary to what many would think, prevents osteoporosis!

I hope that that helped!!!

Re: Can you become thin by using laxatives and being vegetarian?

Do NOT use laxatives. I am not just saying this because I have heard it is bad...I am saying this because I myself was stupid enough to use them. at first I just did it to make my stomach look smaller on the weekends when I was going out or wanted to look good. sure it worked for a little while, but pretty soon I found myself using them all the time, it became my excuse to eat sweets and junk that I normally told myself I couldnt eat. pretty soon, I became so dependent on them that I found myself addicted. I would get really bad stomach cramps as well and would suddenly have to use the restroom or I would explode. also, after a while your body will become accustomed to them and they wont work anymore. then your body will have accumulated a ton of fat around the waist, and you will end up with a ton of cravings for foods that you ate(bad foods) while using them. you will end up gaining weight!
THEY WILL MESS YOU UP!!!

I recommend veganism, but the only way you wil stick to it is to do it for the right reasons--becasue you want to live healthier or lose weight in a healthy way. this will give you results as long as you are a HEALTHY vegan---meaning you eat healthy foods!

Re: How can a vegan lose weight?

um maybe you are consuming too much bread. your body only needs a certain number of servings of carbs, after it gets the amount it needs, unused carbs are stored as fat. Just because you are vegan and arnt eating meats or animal byproducts doesnt mean you should over-do it on carbs. I would suggest maybe planning out what you will eat each day so you dont over-do it in one particular area. for example you could have a bowl of fruits for breakfast, a fruit for mid-morning snack, a toasted veggie sandwhich drizzled with olive oil with roasted bell peppers, tomato, cucumber on sprouted toasted bread, carrotsor celery for snack, and maybe a salad with 1 serving nuts(?) for dinner. you'll probably find that if you inculde more than just bread-- meaning fruits, filling veggies, nuts/seeds/dried fruit, you will not feel the need to binge on bread. if you do want your bread however, I would suggest sprouted bread or gluten-free bread--its a little more pricy, but worth it b/c your body can digest it more easily. also sit down and eat your meals, when you serve a plate and sit to eat it you are less likely to overdose on food than if youre picking at things from the fridge.

Re: Are Monster energy drinks good for you?

my sister loves them, but I would never ever drink one. my advice is that if you want sustaining energy, dont look for it in fake, artificial drinks. just think of the chemicals that youre putting into your body, that were not intended to be there. they not only load toxins in your body, which cause weight gain, cravings, bad habits, addiction, but the energy they give is unnatural.
man, I wish I could tell you something else you could have instead to give you the same or more amount of energy in that quick of time that those drinks give, but I cant really think of anything! haha. coffee or dark chocolate covered esspresso beans, I think may be a better alternative. or maybe try acai juice or those delicious Naked juices they sell--maybe on with Acai or loads of B-vitamins(natural energy boosters).

Re: How do I get more energy?

substitute raw fruits for other sugars(sugary carbs) before you want to exersise. if you dont like fruits and veggies, go for the more appealing fruits like pineapple or mangos or grapes or strawberries or cherries with no added sugar or anything like that that sounds delicious to you. the more fruit you substitute here and there, the more you will aquire a taste for them, and the more you will want. pretty soon you will not crave fake sugars, and you will see that you will have more energy! I promise! nature intended us to eat what it creates, and our bodies were intended to eat what nature creates, so it only makes sense that we would naturally be more energetic when eating natural foods.

make sure you are getting enough rest as well.

also if you form a habit of exercising even if you fell tired you will find the enegy to keep it up because you will realize how good and happy it makes you feel! dont feel like you have to work out a ton all at once, just take baby steps and set goals!

cheers!

Re: Will drinking Apple Cider Vinegar help weight loss?

from what I've heard, apple cider vinegar can help with weight loss because it supresses your appetite. I have heard that it can help clear skin, aid digestion, give you energy, and act as a remedy for several other random problems. although there is no scientific evidence to prove it, many swear by it. I recently just started drinking it because I have heard so much about it I thought it wouldnt hurt to try. supposedly you are to drink 2 Tbsp before each meal or 1/4 cup each day. I've been doing it for 2 days now before each meal or when I get a craving. it makes me somewhat nauseaus so that I dont have the desire to eat as much. as far as losing weight I havent been doing it long enought to tell if it works, but if you like I will update you if it works!

hope I was of help :)

Re: Get to size 3

well, I think that if you are already on raw foods, maybe if you limit your nuts/dried fruits intake and just eat mainly fruits and veggies for the time being but add excersise, that should do the trick. running for about an hour to hour and a half at a pace that keeps you sweating moderately(treadmill works miracles) will definitly get you down to your goal weight on a raw food diet... make sure you are sweating a lot though. you will need to be drinking more water too to replenish from all the water you will be sweating out. I know for a fact that this will work, because I am 5'9 and when I was eating raw foods and doing this, I was a size three. the fast might work, but I would keep in mind that usually any type of fasts will eventually lead you to binge and perhaps sabatoge the work you put into fasting. however if you know you have the will power, make sure it is a liquid fast that is nourishing and dont keep it going for too long. but my recommendation is that you just add excersise if you havent already. running is addicting once you feel the benefits of it and it reduces cravings that will help you stay on track longer. it burns fat really fast if you go long at a steady pace...seriously, running on the treadmill every day for a long time will melt fat so fast you will see yourself thinner in a matter of days. also it will help release toxins which means your body will release waste...waste=weight.

good luck!

good luck! oh and I am here if you need encouragement or help because I am aiming towards the same goal! my treadmill broke and ever since then I gained 30 lbs! yikes! I feel horible, but I am starting turbo jam (since I have no treadmill) this week so we will see. my goal size is the same as yours...I know many think it is too thin, but that is the only size I feel comfortable in. and I am planing on returning to vegan raw foodism as well. thanks for the inspiration too!

p.s. just to give you a heads up, if you plan on running, you may gain weight, but will definitely LOSE INCHES because you will be gaining muscle. muscle takes up less space than fat. I have weighed 130 and fit loose in a size 3 because the majority of my body was muscle and little fat.

Re: How can I become skinny fast?

I hate it when people say "just eat healthy" or "just exersice". what some people dont realize is that although it may be simple and easy to them, others just dont have the will power to stop their cravings. it can be so hard to some of us to just say no, or to change our mindset about food forever. what many of us asking these questions about how to lose weight really want to know, is how to get that power and control. we want advice on how to be able to tell ourselves, no, I dont want this anymore, or how someone going through the same issue is dealing with it. being healthy is good advice, but everyone knows that. everyone knows that that is what will help you stay a good weight. but how can we be sure that we will stay at that weight. how can we be sure that one day, our cravings wont get the best of us and sabatoge everything we've worked towards. see...its control, thats what really determines whether or not you will lose weight and keep it off.

Re: How can I curb my eating and calm my cravings?

I deal with this all the time. I lost like 40 pounds eating healthy and excersising and people started to think I was anorexic and tell me to put on weight. I eventually did, and then turned to bulimia. I am still dealing with this bingeing problem now and so I can never control my sugar cravings. I eat like a guy too!!! :( its so hard now because I really want to get control and just stop eating, but I guess its harder going back to being the healthy person I used to be knowing how much effort it takes. I think its so lame how people tell you to lose weight when you are heavier, but when youre really skinny and eating healthy they tell you to gain weight...its really hypocritical. anyways im ranting, but I just wanted to say I can relate, and that it is really hard to deal with, but the best thing I can think of is just to ask yourself, "what exactly am I worth?". "is this piece of cake going to make me happy? does my body really need this? could I get by with just an apple or something that will give my body natural satisfaction? "

well hope I was good help. good luck :)

I do cry when I try to dress for school...its so hard because I just want to feel comfortable when im going out, but I never do.
Re: How do I lose weight to stop feeling so horrible?

if you are still going through this problem I can totally relate with you. when I was reading your question, I kept thinking, 'wow, this is exactly how I feel." I hope that you are better now and maybe have lost some weight, but I if you havent, I am totally here with you. I have been dealing with my weight for the past two years of my life, and it feels as though it has taken over everything. I used to be overweight, but the lost a ton of weight just eating healthier and excersising, but now I have gained a lot of the weight back (pressure not to lose so much weight) and I feel worse off than when I started. I know how you feel about the clothes too, because I have a ton of clothes that fit a size 3 or 5, but I have ballooned up to a size 7 and I dont feel comfy in anything but loose workout sweats. I have kept trying and trying to lose the weight thinking its only temporary, but I just can seem to gain control. I tell myself I'll excersise later or just not eat, but it never happens. if you still are dealing with this, we can try to lose the weight together. I know it sounds silly, but I've heard that if you have a friend to help you, you are more likely to succeed. you can add me if you decide you want to attack this weight villain together! :) hope to hear from you!
