FunAdvice Advice from: dgreen http://www.funadvice.com/my/advice/dgreen en-us Re: Explanation of God for toddlers? I have three teenaged children but when they were small tey always assumed God and Jesus were up in the sky. I left it like that. When my father passed away my youngest daughter was 2, she let her balloon go one day and said she was sending it to my father and Jesus. I broke down and cried. My father was not a church going man and died suddenly. I love that explanation she gave me to let her balloon go and I see a picture of him in my minds eye when I think of it. My father standing there next to Jesus with her balloon in one hand and my unborn child in his arms ( I lost a child 5 years ago). So, hey, whatever you choose to do about how her perceives God it isn't going to matter yet. They all get their own ideas from their friends, you, and the people that they get taught from at church. DO take your child to a church with a great youth program. It really does help. My youngest daughter is now 11 and she is very, very in tune with God and where she thinks she is supposed to go with her life. dgreen Tue, 12 Dec 2006 12:25:14 -0800 http://www.funadvice.com/q/explanation_of_god 29208 Re: Do you have to smoke to get a marlboro catalog? The marlboro site actually doesn't help. I have been there myself. By chance I found out that you can only get a Marlboro Miles Catalog by calling 1 800 627-5267. I just called this number and they say the the promotion has ended but if you call them today they MAY give you a gift for not being able to help you any further. You have to take a survey about smoking: favorite brand, etc. They are very nice and helpful. Sorry about the Marlboro Miles Catalog though. Apparently, they will not be doing that promotion any more period so even though you don't smoke anymore you may want to call them and see if they will send you something. They ask you if you smoke, I do, but there is no possible way they could know unless you told them. You know what I mean!? dgreen Tue, 12 Dec 2006 12:08:59 -0800 http://www.funadvice.com/q/do_you_have_to_smoke_to_get_a_marlboro 29204 Re: How soon can newborn fly on a plane? I took my baby up in a commercial plane at 3 months. We flew for 4 hours and had to switch planes. Of course this was 10 years ago and they didn't have all the regulations they do now. i.e. she rode in my lap. As far as the kid though, everything should be fine. there is nothing that can hurt him about flying. dgreen Tue, 12 Dec 2006 11:56:58 -0800 http://www.funadvice.com/q/how_soon_can_newborn_fly_on_a_plane 29203 Re: legally an adult? In the U.S. you are a legal adult at the age of 18. You can move out anytime you please now. However, being a mom myself I would be upset if my children didn't talk to me first. On the other hand, I moved out when I was 19 but I did warn my parents that I was moving in with my boyfriend. They weren't happy and I probably should have listened to them because it didn't work out. So, I'll say this. If you are moving out because you and your parents aren't getting along that good but it is not an abusive situation on either part, then why? Why would you want to move out and be stuck paying a bunch of money to find that it really isn't what you wanted or had planned. If it is just because you want your freedon then you need to sit down and talk it over with your parents and see if you can't come to some amicable agreement where both sides benefit. Honestly, my curfew, even when I was home visiting was 12 sharp. My parents would stay up and worry about me and so it was necessary for me to come home at that time so that they could get some worrifree sleep so that they could go to work the following morning. Trust me living on your own is not all of what you want it to be. Sometimes the people that you think are your friends actually end up screwing you over when you are on your own and your parents won't EVER do that. My father didn't want me to pay him rent so I took them out to eat 3 times a week because we worked 11 to 12 hour days. So, like I said even though it's easier said than done, talk to your parents and come up with some type of agreement and if you can't ,then find a place relatively inexpensive and move out BY YOURSELF. You can do this on the computer or on slips of paper and staple them together. Something like: one night of dishes without arguing, one night I will help with dinner and not fuss, one night you don't have to cook, I'll make sandwiches or something. I used to do these for my kids for christmas when I couldn't afford to buy them alot. Now, they give me ones like: One argument night., etc. dgreen Tue, 12 Dec 2006 11:36:59 -0800 http://www.funadvice.com/q/christmas_gift_ideas 29201 Re: Christmas Gift Ideas I suggested to my daughter, who's boyfirend loves to write and draw, to get him a drawing tablet, a package of notebook paper or spiral notebook, a package of colored pencils, some #2 pencils and a few pens. Wrap them up seperately and then put them in a box and wrap that up too. Not only is it fun to watch them open it but it is also really cool to have them say, "Hey! That's why I like you because you really get what I'm about!" Even if it's from one guy to another I don't think it's a bad idea. You just may not want to wrap it up as much - Ha!Ha! As for Mom, I am a 36 year old mom. It's nice to have a nice note or a card that just says how much we are appreciated during the year. Sometimes we have problems with each other and it is just nice to know (even if it's once a year) how much you kids really love us and understand why we are so overprotective and stuff. Brothers....they are kind of hard. I have one too. I usually get him a game or something that he likes and he's happy. Anyway, hope I have been of some help. dgreen Tue, 12 Dec 2006 11:33:20 -0800 http://www.funadvice.com/q/christmas_gift_ideas 29200 Re: looking for gift suggestins for my 14 year old grandson Is he interested in sports.
