FunAdvice Advice from: demosthenes_and_locke http://www.funadvice.com/my/advice/demosthenes_and_locke en-us Re: How long can you be put in jail for stealing? In Washington State, if it's over $200 worth of property then it's automatically a Class C Felony. I served a month, although my sentence was more like 45 days, I had what they call "good time". I don't remember really having a "good time" but apparently I did. Oh and plus the fine will be at least a thousand. And by the way, if it's over $1000 then its Grand Theft and you will probably get at least a year (9months with good time). Still only a Class B Felony, but even a Class C stays on your record for a while and you gotta pay a lawyer to get it off when enough years pass. If your talking about less than 200 then I wouldn't worry about it at all. Not to say there won't be a punishment, but nothing you can't handle, or else you shouldn't have been stealing in the first place. When I used to commit crimes, I would know that I could go to jail for a certain amount of time, depending on what I was doing and I would have to accept that fact. And if you get caught, you don't cry like a baby cause you knew what the consequences were. You know the rules to the game so there's no surprises. I can tell you from years of experience, it's not worth it to steal, or commit crimes for profit in ANY case. I am still working on getting my life back to where it was before I started doing that $#!+ and I still have a few years and thousands of dollars to pay back before I can even think about planning for my future and moving on with my life. When you finally realize that you want to turn your life around, and then you have all that crap on your criminal record, you're going to wish you could find a good job. It took me years to get lucky enough to get the job I have. And it's not even THAT good of a job, but at least I get to be my own boss. My point is, if you don't get lucky like I did, you won't get hired anywhere except for McDonald's. Been there, done that. Working at McDonald's is fine for some people, but it sure would be nice to have other options for employment and then you could just CHOOSE to work at McDonald's instead of being forced to because noone else will hire you. Good luck, pal. demosthenes_and_locke Tue, 13 May 2008 22:48:25 -0700 http://www.funadvice.com/q/stealing_26305 348278 Re: What's a good Bible to buy? Well when it really comes down to it, a Bible is a Bible. As long as it's a Holy Bible, with, like rneal said, 66 books, then you are good-to-go, my friend! I got mine from the dollar store and it's a King James Version, thee's and thou's a-plenty. I had a special "Teen" bible when I was younger, and I found it to make reading the Good Book a bit more entertaining as it included inserts that had some neat things relating to teenagers and relavant situations. So you may want to put your age into the equation when selecting your Bible. There are some other things you may want to consider when making your final decision. For example, why get the Bible in a book form? You know, there ARE DVD and CD-ROM versions that not only show the scripture on the screen, but read them to you out loud as well. Or maybe you might enjoy a CD set you can listen to in your car everywhere you drive, you could breeze through the whole Bible rather quickly, I would imagine. There are also handheld electronic Bibles that vary in size that allow you to, much like the DVD, go directly to the Book, Chapter, and Verse of your choice. Or if you really want to be authentic, you could learn Hebrew and read the Bible in the language it was written in. That's how they found all of the "Bible Codes" you may have heard of. Anyway, happy hunting! Whichever one you get, they all still lead to the same Path! demosthenes_and_locke Tue, 13 May 2008 22:34:24 -0700 http://www.funadvice.com/q/bible_38505 348264 Re: Why are people so rude? you have to realize that, when you are on the internet, its not the same as the "real world". people who have pent up frustrations love to go online and let it all out by saying things to people that they would never say to their face in "the real world". so don't let it bother you if someone else has personal issues that they haven't dealt with (there are millions of these people) or don't know how to deal with. it really isn't their fault either that they have been misguided and/or poorly parented. its just part of life nowadays people have kids when they shouldn't and their children pay the price by growing up without a proper set of values and they struggle in social situations. and by all means, report all abuse, its sad but some people have to learn lessons this way because they don't get any structured discipline at home. demosthenes_and_locke Fri, 04 Apr 2008 11:59:03 -0700 http://www.funadvice.com/q/why_are_people_so_rude 296770 Re: Does anyone on the planet really know the full lyrics? although the song is unreleased, you can download it on limewire. you can't find it on any linkin park albums demosthenes_and_locke Fri, 04 Apr 2008 11:51:56 -0700 http://www.funadvice.com/q/does_anyone_on_the_planet_really 296758 Re: How Can I Stop People from Spreading Rumors? If you are dating someone who is already famous, then I'm pretty sure that they would probably be able to give you better advice on that subject than anyone here on the internet. I've never heard of that person, but if he really is famous then he could help you if he wanted to. And if you are making this up, then I don't know what to tell you. You might become famous for being the girl who lied abou t being ryan's girlfriend on FunAdvice, so hey theres something going for you right there! Just keep on telling everybody you meet and keep posting on the internet that you two are dating, and maybe eventually it will give you 15 minutes or so of fame, and if you use that 15 minutes as a platform to get your name out there, then maybe you could become famous somehow... I dunno, but good luck! demosthenes_and_locke Tue, 29 Jan 2008 16:01:22 -0800 http://www.funadvice.com/q/how_do_i_get_famous 204547 Re: How far back are employers allowed to go for background checks? Ya I'm pretty sure there's no limit to how far back they can go. But keep in mind that they have to pay an investigation company and the further they want to go back, the more they have to pay. The standard is 7yrs. A more prestigous company like Verizon Wireless, for example, will go back 10yrs. Nobody is going to look back more than 10 years unless it is a hi profile job like with the government or any high security job where you would have access to a lot of information or anything else of value. But your standard fast food job or a factory job is not even going to do a background check unless you are applying for a managers position. Also, depending on the state you live in, you can have your record expunged (cleared) after a certain amount of time. In Washington State, you can have a Class C felony removed after 6yrs, a Class B after 8, and a Class A after 10. misdemeanors I don't know about. good luck! demosthenes_and_locke Tue, 29 Jan 2008 15:55:37 -0800 http://www.funadvice.com/q/background_checks_7987 204540 Re: What if I don't know what to do with my future? Oh and another thing: It actually says a lot about you as a person that you are actually thinking about this sort of thing. A lot of kids don't think about that stuff and are just worried about having fun, being "popular" at school, etc. So just the fact that you are thinking about your future means that you will probably succeed in life since you have a desire to try to plan ahead. Keep in mind though that some things happen that you cannot control so don't worry about it too much. And you should just try to enjoy your youth while you can and try to keep a balance between having fun and planning ahead. Your profile indicates that you enjoy music. Although it is considered a lot of hard work to become a "successful" musician, there are many other careers to choose from in the music industry. When I was young I used to go to a LOT of shows and got to know a lot of bands and a lot of club owners, so I used my connections to try to help up-and-coming local acts to promote themselves and get their name out there. I never actually did it long enough to make money, but if you put enough effort into it, you could become a successful promoter. All you have to do is start off like I did hanging out and going to shows and meeting all kinds of people in the biz. When you come across new talent and you believe that they could have the potential to succeed in the industry, then you just talk to some of the club owners that you know and try to book a show for them. It helps if the band has a demo CD that you can give to the club owners to listen to, but it's not really necessary. I'm in the Seattle area so there's a lot of venues looking to book bands even if they're just a little good at what they do, so you would want to do this in a city near you that is big enough and has plenty of venues. So, that's just an idea, there are endless possibilities. Promoting takes a lot of work, but if you enjoy music and meeting interesting people then it will not seem like work because you are havin fun and hanging out with bands all the time. It just takes a while before you get to really know what you're doing and actually start making money from it. Usually, you would tell the band that you can book a show at whatever certain venue, then you pass out flyers or post on the internet to try to get as many people to come to the show as possible. Everyone who comes pays anywhere from 5 to 10 bucks or more to get in to the show, and you gotta work out a deal with the band. For example, you tell them that you got them a show and you are only asking for an equal share of the cover charge. So if there are 4 people in the band, then you count yourself, so theres 5 people to split the money between. If the cover charge is $7 and 30 people show up, then thats $210 divided by 5 so you would each make $42 for the night. Most club owners wont take any of the money because they make money off of all the people who you got to show up at their club when they buy food or drinks. This usually works best for a 21 and over cause people buy alcohol so that's how the club owners make their money. So if you are starting with underage shows then you will have to figure out another formula to make sure everyone makes a little money. Most underage bands are happy to play for practically free just to get their name out there and build a fan-base. It's your business, so you run it the way you want to and make your own rules and everything, so it's pretty fun. So anyway, I hope that helps you think of an idea for something to do with your future. Good Luck! demosthenes_and_locke Tue, 29 Jan 2008 15:47:33 -0800 http://www.funadvice.com/q/startled 204522 Re: How to find my father online? Hey I kinda know how you must feel because I've never met my biological father. Except I don't even know his name. One thing you can do is go to www.superpages.com click on "people" and it will give you a form to fill out with the first and last name, you can leave the city and state part blank if you have no idea where he might be. Try to get clues from your family if you can. If he is a criminal type like my father supposedly is, then you may not find him easily especially if he is running from the law, then he would most likely not have anything in his name. But you can try typing his name into almost anything, like google, myspace, other sites like superpages that have people listings. Or just continue to post on sites like this until someone recognises the name and helps you. I really hope that you find him. And I hope that if he is not what you expected that you handle it well. I think some of my family might know something but they just think I am better off not knowing. Its hard to say but I have a sneaking suspicion someone knows something, but that could just be wishful thinking. Supposedly my dad was a drug dealer and a pimp. And my mom is dead, so she may have been the only one who really knew. But I hope you find what it is your looking for, cause I feel like I don't really know myself since I don't know where I really came from and I would not wish that on anyone. Oh, and as a last resort, if you REALLY want to find him, and you have the money to pay for it, or you can save up for it if it really means that much, you can hire a private investigator. That's what my mom did when she wanted to find us kids after we were basically kidnapped from her by my stepmom and stepdad cause she was on drugs and couldn't take good care of us, and I ended up moving back with her. So good luck! I entered in the name into superpages and it came back with over 40 phone numbers, so maybe you could just call every number and ask if the full name Stacy Allen Gainey is there and see if any of the numbers go to him. demosthenes_and_locke Mon, 28 Jan 2008 22:44:42 -0800 http://www.funadvice.com/q/lost_father_want_to_find_real_bad 203819 Re: What if I don't know what to do with my future? Hey it's never too late. A lot of people don't know what they want to be even after they are 30 or 40 years old. It's true that if you can figure it out earlier, you will have a head start on life. It HAS to be something you enjoy. I am now about to be 27 in 2 days and I am just now figuring out that I want to be an astrophysicist because outer space is one of the only things that excites me since there is so much still to be discovered out there. Also, marine biology is another exciting subject for me since they say that we know more about the moon than we do about our own planet since the ocean takes up most of our planet and we don't know much about what goes on down there. So, you have to figure out what ignites the passion in your heart. And it may take awhile to figure that out. But you don't want to go to college and invest a bunch of time learning about something like, acting, for example and then find out that it's not really what you want to do. However, I think that if you feel that you can do it, acting is the perfect thing to do if you don't know what you want to do. Because as an actor/actress, you can play the part of an astronaut, or the president of the USA, or a doctor, or a criminal. So it's kind of like you get to be all kinds of different people so that sounds like it would not get boring at least. Just don't do something just to make someone else happy. I knew when I was a little kid that stars and planets were very interesting to me, but for some reason it just never dawned on me before to make a career out of doing something that I obviously loved learning about. I just love exploring and discovering, so archeology is also exciting to me since you can dig up an ancient city or dinosaur bones, and find out amazing things that we never knew before. If you have any more questions, or you want to know what you should do to pursue a certain career path, feel free to message me. Actually, I would be quite interested to find out what kinds of things you like and maybe I could help you figure out a good plan, since I know exactly how you feel and I wish someone would have tried to help me get on track when I was young. But if you'd rather not discuss your future or your personal interests with a complete stranger, I completely understand and I wish you the best of luck in your endeavors! demosthenes_and_locke Mon, 28 Jan 2008 22:29:22 -0800 http://www.funadvice.com/q/startled 203816 Re: What if I'm being forced to stay late on my birthday? You just gotta do it. Birthdays come EVERY year of your life. School is only a small fraction of your life, but what you do in school will affect you for your entire life. Just plan to celebrate it on a different day. It's not that big of a deal, is it? Or you could just not go and then have fun for a few hours at your birthday, but is a few hours of fun worth jeopardizing your future? Think about it and make your decision... demosthenes_and_locke Mon, 28 Jan 2008 21:58:13 -0800 http://www.funadvice.com/q/orchestra 203775 Re: How to get her to stop being bored? Or play Truth or Dare, even if theres only 2 of you it will seem exciting to her and might be fun for you too. Or play hide and seek. Yeah, almost EVERY inmate is eligible for early release (i don't call it "good time" like most people because i don't remember having a good time when i was locked down. but im sure it depends on where you were. in my experience, it's almost impossible to get your good time taken away, you have to get into a fight or something else serious. also, keep in mind, i'm talking about county jail, not a state or federal prison. it's important to know the differences. where i did my time, you could get a whopping 1/3 off of your sentence. for example, i was sentenced to 45 days and i only served 30 because 45 divided by 3 is 15 so you subtract that from 45. so, 3 yrs would be 2 yrs, 9months would be 6 months. 12 yrs would be 8yrs. I hope this gives you an idea of what you may be facing. my felonies were very minor (class c felonies) and I was extremely polite to the judge AND the arresting officers and the prosecuting attorney. a little bit of decent behaivior can go a long way in a courtroom. especially if your still young and it's your first charge. you may not even serve any time depending on what you (allegedly) did. feel free to fun mail me with more details and maybe i can let you know how to be best prepared for it. I didn't have noone helpin me on my first charge so I had to learn everything the hard way so thats why I wanna help you out if you need any more advice about it. But basic common sense tells you you should be polite. demosthenes_and_locke Wed, 26 Dec 2007 14:18:44 -0800 http://www.funadvice.com/q/how_to_get_out_of_jail_early 167724 Re: Is declawing normal for dogs? yes, just have them clipped once every month or so with the special nail clippers made for dogs. just make sure you don't clip too far down or they will bleed. I only warn you of that because it is easy to make that mistake. Some doggy bath places will clip em for you. If you were going to pay for having the dog de-clawed, you could take it to a doggy shampoo place for cheap and get your dog a bath and possibly a hair trim if its desired (its nice to do that for them in the summer if it gets hot and sunny where you live, your dog will love you for giving it a summer cut, trust me) and the professional can show you how to properly trim the nails and then you can know how to do it at home so you don't pay for it every time. good luck, I used to have a mini pom and I loved it more than anything. :-) demosthenes_and_locke Wed, 26 Dec 2007 14:01:30 -0800 http://www.funadvice.com/q/pomeranian_questions 167713 Re: Who likes Three Days Grace? If you haven't had any new charges for 13 years, misdemeanors included, then the length of time should be enough for most any employer to hire you. Well I shouldn't say MOST any, but you should have no problem finding a decent job. Most places only check back 7 years, so you don't even have to tell them you are a convicted felon(I've worked for large restraunt chains, construction companies, sales and customer service jobs, telemarketing, and more). More prestigious places like a particular company that I briefly worked for, fired me after a week because they checked back 10 years and mine was 9 1/2 years ago. You can make good enough money at all the jobs I mentioned. If you really want GOOD money and you think you are talented and skilled and able enough, then the next step up is to start your own business. Doing what? Anything. Washing windows, Selling stuff on Ebay that you bought for cheap becuase you purchased a merchants license like knives, or collector dolls or whatever, detailing cars at the owner's location. Just make some business cards, maybe some flyers, put up an ad in the little nickel for about 30$ a week, get your business license and as soon as you can afford, maybe some bonding and insurance and you can charge like anywhere from 60-200 bucks per vehicle depending on the size, how dirty it was when you started, etc. There's a lot of different services you can provide to people by starting your own business. I know a guy who drives a Jaguar, has a house that's almost a million dollars, just from him washing windows, cleaning gutters, and setting up and taking down christmas lights and decorations. all the business is done at the person's house, you don't have to pay for a storefront, the tools you need are pretty cheap. Just somethin to think about brother, I got a felony too and I started a painting business that I ran for six years until I was forced to stop so I could take care of a family member struck down with medical troubles. If you want to start a business though, you gotta start with what you have and work your way up slowly and save up your money to grow your business just like you would a garden. Good Luck. I hate working for other people but I still do it frequently. demosthenes_and_locke Thu, 20 Dec 2007 01:02:41 -0800 http://www.funadvice.com/q/stressed_629 163427 Re: Why isn't *69 working on my phone? no, *67 is what you dial before you dial the person's number if you want your caller id not to show up to the person you're calling. if *69 didn't work then they may have dialed *67, making their number unavailable, or, the person who's phone your using doesn't have *69 as a feature in their phone service plan. demosthenes_and_locke Thu, 20 Dec 2007 00:37:13 -0800 http://www.funadvice.com/q/69_not_working_need_help_asap 163418 Re: Gas and weight I imagine that it would take an amount of gas larger than our body like maybe 5 times as big, or more. think of a hot air balloon, or a blimp/zepplin, it takes a lot just for a relatively small quantity of people.
