How to stop your dog from running away when she is off the leash?

Does anyone have any tips on how to deter your dog from running away? My dog is fairly obedient at home she is about 1 year old and she is toilet trained however when she is outside she just gets over excited and runs away if she is not on a leash she doesnt go far but will not come to you when you call. I've tried offering treats when she is good but it doesnt work. She is not obedient when she is in our home only outside the doors.

I dont want to have to have her on a leash at all times when I take her to the park

Does anyone have any tips on how to train a dog to come when you call them?

We just picked him up today. We decided on a Teddy =) He is six months old and, thankfully, gets along wonderfully with our other dog Jack Sparrow. Now we just have to find a name for him. I'm not real familiar with names from the movie Pirates of the Carribean...are there any names from that that might fit? Or any other suggestions unrelated to the movie?

Hamster Questions

Ok..I got a little Dwarf Hamster today..I called him Hammond :)

A few questions..

1. Is it ok for the hamster to be near my dog..will my dogs barking frighten the hamster everytime? or will it eventually get used to it and be ok with it

2. Is there any one type of bottle best for its water..I got a free one with th cage but its leaking so much that it is now empty..after about 4 hours :P ..and its the one with the bal bearing..should I just buy another one with a ball bearing as this one might be a broken one.

3. how long do hamsters live for?

4. Do you think hes ok..when we got him in his cage he just sat there staring into space for 5 minutes and didnt move..then we went into the tube and had slept there for about 4 hours only moving to go to the opposite side of the tube..?? Is it normal

Sorry im asking so many questions..

thanks

They are so cute when they do this, is their a reason why they do this or they just do it for no real reason?

Why does everyone I tell about me getting a giant snake think

It's going to be able to eat me? They can't get past a humans shoulders. The only way it could eat me is if I was asleep, and it coiled around my legs and swallowed me from the feet up. So I'm perfectly fine, cause I'm pretty sure they don't often swallow prey that way.

Is peta really bad?

I have been a vegetarian for about two and a half years now.

I have been really supportive of peta and goveg.com and everything
I have recently found though that PETA has killed over 14,400 dogs and cats at its Norfolk, Virginia headquarters. During 2005, PETA put to death over 90 percent of the animals it collected from members of the public. PETA has given tens of thousands of dollars to convicted arsonists and other violent criminals.

now I dont know whether to believe this or not?

but is it wrong to still support PETA even if they killed all those animals running tests if there trying to save other animals.

dont get my wrong im totally against animal testing but in a way arent they still doing good

Should I quit riding horses?

well I don't know what to do . I love horses and I've been riding for a year now . The sad thing is my riding instructor is always criticizing me and it really hurts. My older cousin rides with me and no doubt she is a good rider and my riding instructor is always telling me to watch her. If he thinks she is so great why does he make me ride the lead horse ,why when her horse gives trouble I have to walk alongside her . I think it is best that I quit being an Equestrian. What should I do?

I had 3 male dwarf hamsters and today I found one of them dead and the ohter two eating it. I wondered why this had happened they had a big 3 tier cage lots of food and water and I cleaned the cage at least once a week to make sure they were clean.

What are cats like as pets, thinking of getting one?

I am thinking about getting a cat soon. I have had dogs all my life and I love them but I want to get a cat because I want to try having a different animal in the house and I hear they are less maintenance. Could you guys with cats tell me what cats are like? Are they affectionate like dogs? Tell me everything you love about cats!

Need help with pekingese male dog, one year old?

I adopted Jack Sparrow, an approximately one-year-old neutered pekingese male dog from the humane society a few months ago and we're having one issue with him...housebreaking. He is such a sweet and lovely dog and we do not want to give up on him. The main issue is that he never gives any indication that he has to go to the bathroom. Ever. We take him outside about four to six time per day (and he may or may not go when we take him)...but he still goes inside, sometimes. It's like he doesn't know that it is wrong. We never catch him doing it, but find the evidence later. From what they say, you're not supposed to reprimand a dog if you do not catch him in the act, because they will not understand why. Sooo, what do I do? I crate trained him, I feed him on a regular schedule...what else can I do? He is a very awesome dog otherwise and I don't want this to always be an issue. Any really great suggestions out there???

Bird Questions ( budgie, canary, parakeet)

I have been looking at birds for a while now and as my birthday is coming up I thought that it would be a good idea to start begging the parents. I have a high chest of draws which I would keep the cage on as I know they like to be high, also I have a small dog ( jack russel crossed with staffy ) and I wasnt sure if this would be a problem, she doesnt spend any time in my room but knowing the bird is in there it might attract her, but keeping the door shut and being so high up I thought this may be ok. Another problem is which one to get, at first I wanted a yellow canary as I heard they sing when trained and I like to sing in the morning getting ready and listen to a lot of music so I thought this would be nice but then with them getting lonely I wondered about getting another bird to go with it, a green budgie.. but how would I do this buy them both at the same time so they bond or one after another? also would a canary and a budgie be okay in the same cage ? also, altho this sounds stupid I was thinking maybe a male budgie and a female canary, I dont want them to breed so is it possible they can as I dont no much about there breeding and wether its possible for a budgie to breed with a canary?.. thanks a lot,, any tips are wanted also :) x

Aggression from my Dogs.

I have 2 Dogs named Sally and Roxy, they are both females. They are having problems with each other. Whenever I go outside and give Roxy a little pat or so Sally would come and try biting Roxy on the snout or legs. I have to seperate them all the time with my bare hands but for some reason Sally isn't biting as hard as a real bite, it makes it easier though to grab her snout and pull it away from Roxy's. When I toed Sally up she probably got annoyed or some, and when I let her off (she likes licking my face) I bent down to give her a pat and she jumped on me trying to bite my face. Luckily I was quick enough to push her off me by pushing her chest. She is a really big dog, a little bigger than Roxy. Since I am living in the Solomon just for a holiday (Sally and Roxy live with my sister in the Solomons) the Dogs are always allowed to go where they want. They are not really actually owned, and no there is no rspca in the Solomons. They walk on the roads and go pracically everywhere. Don't fuss about that part the Solomon Islands is a very poor country and they were in the middle of a war. So it is not like Sydney where the roads are SO busy that there is no way I dog can cross. In the Solomon Islands the road is not busy, it is a dust road too. The dogs stay at the side too. Anyway can anyone give me any suggestions to fixing my Dog problem?
