O_o my PC is made up of different parts, its not an off the shelf PC you could buy in stores

its got an asus motherboard, 2 kingstone RAM's (one 256 and another 512 MB)
ge force FX 5500 graphics card, 80 GB HDD drive, a video7 17 LCD monitor
and an intel xenon 2.4 Ghz CPU hybrid (though with the right motherboard it can be tweaked to 3.4 Ghz, also its a hybrid thats what makes it so rare) its got 4 years of history behind it... and its still working like the first day I bought it

nowadays a good running PC would need :
1GB of RAM or above
intel core duo 3.0 GHZ and above
250 GB's of HDD
17 to 20 LCD monitor is also good (anything plasma is a no go)
standard mouse and keyboard, a webcam and whatever else youd ad for your entertainment...
oh and two 20x DVD burners...

I'm using a HP Pavilion Entertainment PC. It's a laptop with a pretty design on top and great for what I use it for. As a bonus it's got a built in webcam and finger scanner instead of typing in passwords.
What are you intending to use the computer for? If you want to travel around then it would be easier getting a laptop. Or if you want to play games on it make sure you get a computer with a high memory RAM etc.

I'm using an IBM (desktop PC), it's ancient and not very good. I would also reccommend a HP Pavillion(laptop), my Dad has one and it's great. I wouldn't reccommend advent, they're laptops are good but heir desktop PCs are rubbish.

I'm using an Conpact laptop which I had since January of 2007.
It works great. I would recomend HP also.
If you want something to travel around with, I'd get a laptop. I don't own a desktop at all since I've had my laptop like I mentioned since January 2007. I'm typing on it right now. Good luck, if you find the right computer of your choice, hope it works for you.

I've got a Dell. If you're looking to buy a new computer, wait until the available OS ISN'T Vista... It really sucks.
