Wtf is thanksgiving?

I'm hearing a load of people ask about thanksgiving, what is it? :S

What is Thanksgiving? A holiday. Well, duh, but what IS it? Why do we celebrate it?

Thanksgiving Day is a harvest festival. Traditionally, it is a time to give thanks for the harvest and express gratitude in general. It is primarily a North American holiday which has generally become a national secular holiday with religious origins.

The date and location of the first Thanksgiving celebration is a topic of modest contention. Though the earliest attested Thanksgiving celebration was on September 8, 1565 in what is now Saint Augustine, Florida[1][2], the traditional first Thanksgiving is venerated as having occurred at the site of Plymouth Plantation, in 1621.

you dont know what that is?! well it is where you eat a bunch of food and give thanks for what you have in life...and your family all gets together to do that.

it has to do with the pilgrims and the natives ..
they had a feast on november ..

It's the day we give thanks as tradition states for each of our respective countries.

In Canada, we give thanks for a bountiful harvest.

I think the US celebrates it as a way of remembering when the pilgrims entered the new world.
