Can I dye black hair brown somehow?

I colored my hair myself at home, it was suppose to be dark brown but its came out black, I mean Black. I hate it, I’m getting married soon, I want my brown hair back. Can I just put a light brown in it so lightened it up a little?

Answer #1

i suggest a hairdresser–i’m in the Exact situation–marriage comming up and everything i got mine fixed today. they will frost your hair (to bleach it) ask for frosting not bleach because the bleach will cause more damage. then it will be completely blonde and you have to dye it brown on top of that. if your hair comes out orange fromt he frosting, don’t worry–just re-frost it and it will be fine.

Answer #2

You Can wash it with hot water so the color can fade or just get a light or medium brown..it should work! Good LUck!

Answer #3

go to an actual hair dresser.. this time.. get it lightened there. that way it doesnt seriously look bad on your big day!

Answer #4

I would recomend you go get it perfesonaly done because you have to remove pigments. because I when blond and then wanted it dark brown and they had to put the pigments back in my hair so black to dark brown you have to remove the pigments.

Best Answer :

First, you must remove da current black colorin’ by using L’oreal Zap or L’oreal Effasol !! then : Go buy “”L’oreal Excell 10”” 6.0 Natural Light Brown - and dye your hair using it , apply it for about 10 min then you’re going to get dark brown color !! If you want get light brown color on you hair, I recommend you to dye it using “”L’oreal Excell 10”” 8.13 Light Frosted Blonde .

Black hair + 6.0 Natural Light Brown = Dark brown. Black hair + 8.13 Light Frosted Blonde = Light brown.

Good Luck

you’ve posted your kestion on 2007 and im answering it on 2009 lolll, but I wanted help haha /:)

Use Colorfix ($13.00 at Sally’s). I dyed my hair black for 2 years, put the colorfix on it and it stripped it down to a red color without ANY damage. Then I colored over the red with a permanent dark ash blonde (if you use brown it will come out darker than expected, looks like black). The ash blonde + red = a nice medium brown… good luck!

I have a question for hhigbee. I did the same thing and my hair is a lot darker than I wanted it to come out. its pretty black. Is there I certain type of head and shoulders that makes it fade or is it just any head and shoulders shampoo?

Answer #9

if you wash your hair with head and shoulders it will strip most of the black out i to did this and this is what my hairdresser told me to do. and it really worked

Answer #10

hmm if your hair is black… then the only way to get it brown is to bleach it = ) you can buy bleach at stores you apply it to your hair like normal dye wait for 30 mins and wash your hair afterwards your hair will look BLONDE then you get the shade of brown you want on your big day put that in your hair leave it inb for 30 mins or so and then wash it with cold water and you have to EXACT type of brown you want

hope I helped <3

All the advise info has been so useful. Where to do I start, I got naturally black hair but I usually dye it chestnut brown using the feria. I think its flash brown and there is a chinsese girl on the cover. Its specifically for dark hair including black and does work. If you have died you hair jet black you may have to apply it a couple of times over a six period.

Recently I wanted to change to light brown. I made the mistake of colouring it iced chocolate, I think its one of the new l’oreal products e.g glossy honey tones range. It went a very reddish brown. I tried to rectify this and put on chocolate brown schwarkoff Live range, but this made it look quite copperrish, so I put in some high lights, made it look yellow and orangish, like a nuclear waste knd of colour, toxic!!

Luckly I read this website and I coloured it ultra lightening ash brown, all red, yellow and orange tones have gone and my hair is a lovely natural looking light brown. Thanks to everyone for commenting on her. Because my hair was so damaged now, it looked dry etc, I have been using virgin olive oil every night (vitale hair oil) and coconut conditioner after my normal conditioner, and its beginning to look healthier :):)

first wash your hair a lot so it lets the colour fade a bit then to get your hair to the colour you want dye it a shade lighter. if you want to go really light dye your hair a shade lighter every two weeks until you get the colour you want.
