Some writing techniques that i could use for my story?

What are some writing techniques that I could use for my story? How should I prepare before writing it? I also would like to know how I can be a better writer besides practice?

The best way to practice writing is by reading all types of literature! Not only will it expand your vocabulary but, it will also open you up to new writing styles and give you examples of ways you might be interested in writing in the future.

Write one in first person and one in third. Read an Edgar Allan Poe and try to immatate his style! Try that with a few writers and by the end of the day you'll have a great story written.

When righting just make sure you are descriptive about everything, use all five senses. Through in some unique words(more descriptive) use all the things you learn in english class, one thing I notice often with fanfiction is how many times one author uses some words, make sure you have a variety in there!
Oh and have some one prof read, I don't write on fanfiction at the time but I think that they have betas or something along those lines to read it before you post it

Brainstorm. Write down every idea that pops into your head and then chose which ever one that you can write the most about. Then just be as descriptive as you can and use a wide vocabulary. Make it your own. Be unique. Also trow in some dialogue and narrative rather than just 'I did this, I did that'
