Woodtick population explosion?

I went hiking today along a stream and I had to have pulled at least 15 wood ticks off of me while I was there, I found 7 more when I got home. I have had more woodticks on me in the last 3 hours than I have had in the last 5 years.
I live in the...

midwest, is there a lot of woodticks showing up anywhere else??

I think they are. at least they are in tennessee and kentucky. It never got cold enough this past winter to kill them off.
