Windows 7

aug Asked by nero 10 months ago, 5 answers.

I'm aware (and probably more joyous than I should be) that Vista has finally been abandoned and that Microsoft released Windows 7 beta. I managed to download it, but since I'm primarily using a Macbook Pro 17 and an iMac for work, and have third Dell...

desktop that's infected with Windows Vista Doom-Edition.

I'm wondering if anyone has tried to use Windows 7 in boot camp or Parallels (though I think Parallels is exclusively XP)? I'm a little weary of just going for it.

Is your associate running it on a PC?

But that is a promising sign. It only took Microsoft 5 years to create a decent successor to XP, 6 if you include the horror film that is Vista.

vista isnt all that bad. do you not remember how xp was when it first came off the shelf? the difference is the fact that microsoft definitely over-hyped vista to the point where people thought it would be the os of perfection. there is no such thing, and never will be. the closest thing to a crash proof system is a computer that doesnt turn on.

Still, we should see vista as a stepping stone, rather than a revolution (unlike what microsoft tried to make it), especially since most of the projects that was destined for vista ended up in the production line for windows 7.

Obviously, if windows 7 comes out and it ends up being as great as everyone has said, it would be great. But if wasnt for the mass disappointment of vista, microsoft wouldnt have poured as much time, effort and resources into the success we hope to call Windows 7.

Im not as curious about Windows 7 as I am about Windows 8. I think that project will be bigger than anticipated. A lot of secrecy is going on about what innovations and revolutionary features are going to be poured into the low-profile project. I think it won't be until it's release that we finally realise that microsoft is serious about keeping it's customers. Competition has never been this close to turning over microsoft as the monopoly of General PC's.

We'll just have to wait and see...

Well you know, I'd have hoped that with the 5 years they put into it they'd bring something more to the table. Aside from the million bugs and the search bar and widgets they added to the desktop (and did I mention the million bugs?), I wasn't impressed. The look of Vista got a lot of thumbs up, but honestly, I don't care so much about aero glass windows and menus so much as whether or not I can find my files and not have my system crash.

I haven't heard anything about Windows 8. That's intriguing to me. I think the damage done with Vista sent a lot of people over to Apple, and definitely Linnux (ugh...). So I don't know if Microsoft will get 8 out in time to save it's previous customers.

What I hope Windows 8 provides is a more user-friendly functional OS, and if I have to sacrifice the pretty polished look of it then so be it.
