Will she die?

meeeeee Asked by paulettiehead about 1 year ago, 11 answers.

this question is for a friend of mine.

his friend was kicked in the stomache by a horse,

she stopped breathing for 2 minutes,
and now she's in the icu,

I don't know anything else about it but I can ask,
so do you think she will die?

I'm so sorry to hear that. Pray that she doesn't. There is no way to know the outcome. They will do everything humanly possible to save her, sweetie.

She more than likely just got some internal organ damage. More than likely ruptured her spleen or something of that nature. More than likely she'll live. As jsparrowlvr says though since you don't know praying is your surest solution.

Prayer is a good place to start. she's in good hands .skilled drs and nurses in an ICU if she didnt need surgery there is a ggod chance ICU is precautionary than anything else. no way to know if this is the same thing but a gal I know was kicked in stomache AREA by a horse. she suffered spleen damage. when an organ is damaged it gives off enzymes. unfortunately the spleen gives an enzyme that can play with blood pressure and heart rate and untreated a damaged spleen can be fatal. she was in the ICU for like 3 days and hospital a week total and really just to monitor the spleen(I think they took it out too cant rmember that much) and about the not breathing wa s the wind knocked right out of her? well if that is even more severe, think positive she made it to the hospital and the people with eyes on are going to handle it. anything I say is just conjecture, but my friend was walkin and talkin in a couple of days and is fine now...(even tho im not sure if she still has her spleen going to have 2 ask her...) good luck to you and yours...

As someone mentioned above, it is probably something to do with her organs. I had Cancer and had to have my spleen removed. I am doing fine w/o it and that was about 30 years ago. Just be there for her and keep checking on her progress.

She should almost certainly be fine. If she has internal injuries, they can almost always be repaired. If she's in ICU, she is being monitored closely. If she remains stable for a day or two, she's probably out of the woods. If she starts to deteriorate, they can do a CAT scan or MRI and find out what's wrong and fix it. Time is your friend here. The longer she stays alive, the more likely that she will continue to stay alive. Youth is on her side as well. You didn't mention her age, but if she's out messing around with horses, I presume she's not a refugee from a nursing home. I wouldn't be making any funeral plans just yet.

ok, there is a mutitude of things that can be a problem...

firstly, 2 minutes is not long enough for the brain to be starved of too much oxygen... so that SHOULD be ok, hopefull someone was doing CPR, the complication there is if the rider had broken ribs etc...

and being kicked in the stomach with a horse...I would have a look at the persons monitor (the rider will have TONNES of machinery around them in ICU)

tell your friend to ask about what the readings mean, the staff in icu (or hdu) are very helpful and will gladely explain what the numbers mean, it will at least give your friends some idea of what's going on...

but there are too many things to think about that can go wrong, seriously, it's not worth going there...you start thinking about all the things that CAN go wrong, you begin to loose hope...

the most important thing is to ask the staff, they won't give you a prognosis, because they can't, if someones in there, then they're pretty bad, and they won't put themselves ina position where they could give or take hope from someone...

the most important thing is to keep talking to the person, just general stuff, their fave mags, take them in and read them, evidence suggests that although they can't reply, it doe's help stimulate the brain...

good luck, give the family a hug and just be there...tragic...sad
