Will republicans call on mccain to renounce bellavia?

?? Asked by amoeba 3 months ago, 5 answers.

At a John McCain rally on Capitol Hill Tuesday, David Bellavia, a Republican candidate for Congress in New York's 26th congressional district said that '[Democrats] can have their Tiger Woods, we have John McCain.' With comments like that it's not surprising that Republican State Senator George Maziarz recently said, 'It's very difficult for a Republican in this election cycle,' [New York Times, 4/8/08]. Western New York Republicans ought to disavow their candidates' outrageous and divisive statement.
'What's more outrageous than David Bellavia's divisive attack is the fact that John McCain has not repudiated the statement,' said Carrie James, Northeast Regional Press Secretary at the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. 'Will New York Republicans do the right thing and call on John McCain to reject Bellavia's racist comments? New York Republican candidates have an opportunity today to tell New York families that they aren't rubberstamp Republican candidates, and stand up and protect the integrity of our national conversation on the issues.'

Well, what do you think?

I doubt they will. They will just wait till it goes away and is forgotten. The press is barely covering this disgusting comment.

Sounds like Nobamas 'Typical white person' comment.

Hey amblessed, would you think the 'typical white person' comment was so bad if it came from a white person?

Bellavia was not comparing Tiger to Obama. He was simply making the point his sons will grow up to admire real heroes like John McCain and not sports figures like Tiger Woods. He used Tiger as an example because that is the first name to pop into his head. Yes, he took a jab at Obama at the end of his speech with the 'Audacity of Hope' comment, but this was not about race either. David has been through hell and back and does not deserve these attacks. Did you know he is nominated for the Medal of Honor? Read his amazing book 'House to House: An Epic Memoir of War'...then tell me what kind of person he is.

okay...let me this this straight...
bellavia, a republican candidate for congress, was making a speech and during that speech he spoke of john mccain when referring to the republicans and tiger woods when referring to the democrats... and tiger woods was the first name to pop into his head...
hmm...I wonder why obama would not have popped into his head?
he doesn't sound very bright.
anyone can write a book, carefully worded and edited. I have found that it is the off-the-cuff remarks that allow the most insight. and according to you, that is exactly what happened.
