I don't know - their like techinical definitions are sometimes hard for people to understand.

Because on earth, the two are directly linked due to gravity. People don't have any personal experience with the distinction, so it's hard to grasp.

because mass is usually measured in the smae incriments that weight is and many people use the two words interchangeably (sp haha)
