Why would he throw that in there and should there be an apology ?

Asked by amblessed about 1 year ago, 25 answers.

Can anyone tell me why Obama today, in a speech subject: The Economy, would he take a shot at Nancy Reagan saying, I didn't want to get into a Nancy Reagan thing like a seance - Why would he throw that shot in there and should there be an apology ?

I agree with Obama. He had the right to say it and has no need to apologize.

give it up amblessed... you're stuck with him for the next four years...

and nope, no one on here is a mind reader, and no one can explain what one sentence taken out of context means... if you would provide links it may be helpful...

it's a little hard though, to see exactly how he was taking a shot at her... specially because it makes no sense without the rest of the speech.

Given the large SL scandal in the 1980's trickle down reaganomics, etc...I think he could have taken a bigger shot most people would not have cared about it happy

I didn't hear, but that is a great line.

Amblessed are you suggesting that Nancy Reagan didn't have an astrologer, and that she didn't influence Ronnie's schedule so as not to do presidential business on certain days based on her astrologers recomendations?

She is a complete loon...

Nancy Reagan was said to have held seances in the white house to contact the spirits of former Presidents.

When asked if Obama had met with former Presidents in regard to the economy, he said, I have spoken to all of them who are living. I didn’t want to get into a Nancy Reagan thing about doing any seances.

... my guess is even Nancy got a chuckle from that.

Seeing the whole quote.

I stand by what I said. He was just making a joke, and the joke was factual. So what's the big deal.

Oh yea I forgot, you are looking for any reason you can find to hate Obama. When are you going to give it a rest amblessed?

Of course amblessed as usual gives misleading out of context quotes.

You are truly pathetic. This is what you are going to grip about?

He won, get over it.

Hmmm

- speech subject: 'The Economy'
- first lady who had nothing to do with policies, in her 90's - ailing health
- obviously not meant as a compliment - mean spirited ?
- so the reason would be...

Oh, I forgot, Character revealed - that explains it, disregard.

This will be a Fun 4 !!

when people make up their minds about hating(or loving) someone they are constantly looking for things to rationalize why they don't like them and in their own mind prove they are correct about the decision they have made. this is just amiblessed futile attempt at trying to justify to himself why he hates obama. I would just start ignoring these questions as we will probably continue to see them for the next 4 years.

Well, unfortunately I didn't hear the speech but, I think if Obama said that about Nancy Reagan, I believe he should apologize.
It sounds like he's way off topic.
Sorry I can't give you more of a good answer since I didn't hear the speech.

LOL...no...he wasn't poking fun at Nancy as much as at himself...He said he'd talked to ALL the former presidents, and then added...only the living ones, and said something about Nancy and her seances (which actually was an astrologer, not a medium)...either way, it wasn't worth an apology

Tho, I thought I heard tonight on the news, that he did apologize to her???

He already apologised.

I have to say I was a little disappointed at the remark, but on hindsight it is normal, its a carry-on from the partisan atmosphere of the presidential campaigns. What I say is, let Obama transit into president-mode, and judge him after the end of the 2008-2012 term

Bottom line: Disappointed at Obama, but doesnt affect my approval of him. What matters is that he is able to run the country well

That said, I watched most of the news conference and he looked presidential and answered questions well, apart from the Reagan comment

It was a simple slip of the tongue followed by an accidental twisting of facts relating to two presidents.

He was saying how he had talked to all living presidents. Then he was going to talk about communicating with dead presidents and said Clinton then realized he fouled up the continuation so had to switch to Nancy because he was trying to talk about dead presidents.

It was Hilary Clinton who had attended séances seeking the advice of dead presidents. Nancy only sought the aid of Astrologers after Reagan had been shot.

AND, Obama did call and apologize to Nancy immediately after that press conference.

I hope you do not take offense,
To that that's gone before;
'Tis only that it's my two-cents,
And not one penny more. §;o)
