Why the burden on the taxpayer ?

During its 2005-2006 fiscal year, the nonprofit Planned Parenthood Federation of America performed a record 264,943 abortions, attained a high profit of $55.8 million and received record taxpayer funding of $305.3 million - Why does this 'non-profit', that profits, receive a huge Government hand-out ?

Technically a 'non-profit' organization doesn't show a profit. They spend out their money every year till the coffers are zero or they lose an equal amount of funding the following year. The revenue they received was the 55.8 million which was not a profit, but a revenue. So this means that the clinics received near 360 million in '05-'06. There are 99 clinics in California and many smaller states only have around 4-12 clinics. So you would need at least 2 doctors and around 6 Nurses to staff a clinic That means California would need a budget that entailed around 100k per doctor and 50k per nurse so at the lowest estimate I would say 500k per clinic in payroll (California costs of living demand a bit higher wage need.. these numbers are at the low end for doctors and nurses that have jobs elsewhere). So 99x500K= 49.5million which is only the payroll for each clinic. This can be tripled when you add in Texas and New York. So I am now halfway through the budget with 47 more states to go.. Spending 305million to generate 55 million seems like a non-profit to me.

This is something that our government saw as a 'small' hand-out. Big hand-outs are like the 'war' in Iraq that could be in the trillions by the time we are out. And what did we gain from that? Where are the new jobs? Why isn't terrorism gone (ignore that the terrorists were never from Iraq nor associated with Iraq for a moment)? And what type of Christian leader is Bush to spend trillions to kill tens of thousands so that we can see that one man is condemned to death? The point is: America is not perfect. We do as we all think is 'best' at the time. You can see by this question you posed and my answer that the two extremist sides (liberals and conservatives) make up for quite a lot of killing. So which killer is right? I would say that is a trick question myself. Vote smarter and question both sides of the fence so that our 'leaders' are not having such an easy time taking advantage of us.

Also Planned Parenthood clinics do a lot more than provide abortions. They provide annual womens exams, pregnancy tests, STD testing and treatment, birth control, gynocological services as well as abortions. In some areas the only women's clinic available is a Planned Parenthood clinic. Some of its funding is Medicaid payments for mainstream medical services.

Of course the Bush family has a long history of supporting Planned Parenthood. Prescott Bush helped start PP. GH Bush was pro-choice up until he ran as VP under Reagan. GH Bush changed his position on abortion to be Reagan's running mate in 1980. Barbra Bush was pro-choice but generally kept her mouth shut durring her husband's presidency though privately she asked him to cut down on his anti-abortion rhetoric. GW Bush has always given lip service to the pro-life position but except when courting Evangelical voters doesn't seem that concerned.

Planned Parenthood is a Godsend. Lemme tell you.

I do not make very good money, neither do a lot of other women in this area (it's just a depressed area)

Planned Parenthood offers birth control, annual exams, STD testing and pregnancy tests depending on your income.. and for many like me that means it's free.

Planned Parenthood health centers offer high-quality sexual and reproductive health care, including family planning, gynecological care, STI/STD testing and treatment, pregnancy testing, and abortion services.

Planned Parenthood believes that everyone has the right to choose when or whether to have a child, that every child should be wanted and loved, and that women should be in charge of their destinies.

Prevention first is their philosophy. To prevent unwanted pregnancies (and thus preventing abortions)

I assure you they do not make a profit. The Planned parenthood where I live is a very meager one, finding funding wherever they can.

their preventative attitude makes sense. The tax dollars are then going to prevention... instead of seeming to award people for having loads of children like some programs do.
