Why is virginity considered so special?

I don't get it. I understand not wanting to sleep around, and I understand not wanting to lose it at a young age...but people are calling it "the most precious thing you have" and stuff. Why...?

virginity is sooo important, theres too many people having sex these days I mean seriously think about it, this world lives on sex! music videos these days are like soft core p*rn!! im 14 and I've been pressured to have sex for as long as I can remember.

Because sex is a special thing. And being a virgin is special, especially these days because all of these young girls (11-16) are having sex. Which means that it's kind of rare to find even a 14 yr. old virgin..
So virginity is a special thing and should only be given to a very special person. An donly when you're old enough to understand the consequences and responsibilities of sex.

Okay. Totally expected some sort of response from Randyo like that, but I don't think what she's said answers your question. Sure, sex for the first time is a special thing, and is best shared with a special person, but is it the most precious thing you have? Personally, I think the most precious thing in the world is to have a child with someone you love. I cannot think of anything more special and wonderful than that.

I would actually like to hear an answer from Randyo that properly addresses & answers Underwaterophelia's question. Without any of the cart blanche generalisations such as "your parter will respect you more" or "all these young girls (11-16) are having sex" because I don't think either of those two quotes are totally accurate.

...of course, it'll totally make more sense if the people who think virginity is special aren't the same people who lost theirs at fourteen, fifteen, or sixteen. Such isn't the case, however, and I indeed would like to hear from those people.

It just a matter of perspective. People often lose their virginity to the wrong person for stupid reasons; BUT people also (just as often) get MARRIED to the wrong person for stupid reasons...

Too bad there's no legal way to regain your virginity.

Well I think virginity is special because ...wow ... returning to economic principles...what is rare is expensive thus making it special...or so they say.
But you know ,I agree with captain assasin,it does depend on your perspective and how you view life.
If you are religious then ... virginity is special because it is to be given to the man you marry,which is a special event.
If you are not religious then virginity is special because...so many people are giving it away.

people tell you that it is just because, half based on
being a good kid and image, and the
other half is based on other peoples
beliefs or religion, I just say do what makes you happy.

It's special because the person you lose it too you will forever be bonded to. My mother told me that I should make sure I love the person first when I lose mine ( Still a virgin and I'm 15 Woo! ) because having sex can esspashally the first time make you think your in love because of all the emotions.. that's why most marrages fail ( Not accussing anything I know some people leave for other reasons sorry for anyone I affented ) And think about it the person you love would want to take it because it's like saying "hey I'm yours and your mine forever, I love you" not.. "hey I'm young and stupid lets have some fun while making stupid dissions" I hate that more people arent virgins it's not a bad thing .. how would you feel if you were in love with someone and they werent your first and your wernt theres? I know I'd feel freaken pi$$ed because one.. I love the person and they have touch/seem another naked and felt their body such and such.. Even if I wasn't a christain I'd still save my virginity for the person I love,, the person I want to be with eternity. =]

Another thing that I don't get is people wanting to save their virginity for the special someone... and having no problem with getting fingered, giving head, and all the wonderfully imaginative things in-between. Just as long as no actual sex before marriage.

I guess it`s just the religious stuff or whatever.

Losing your virginity is a once-in-a-lifetime event; it is also a life changing event. After I had sex for the first time, I looked at myself, girls, sex, and life in a new and differnet way.

Sex is usually a very emotional experience, often creating a bond between two people in addition to the physical union. This bond can be very strong.

Hence it can be considered special, as in... I saved myself for you... I give the gift of my body to you... I have bonded with no one but you.

That's how I was raised. My parents and other family members grew up around this. Plus, I went to catholic schools and that's how students were educated on sexuality and marriage. It's amazing how some girls jump into sex at spur of the moment and regret it. It's once you learn the consequence that makes you think twice.

Love yourself, & respect yourself, Treasure your body, don't spread it around. Once you have sex everything changes. Females need a reason to have sex because we are emotional beings, Males just need a place. Don't subject yourself to HIV, STD's or an unwanted Preganacy. That is when you will see that 20min of fun wasn't worth it at all.

my advice to you is don't end up like my friend, she lost it to a stupid freak and is now paying for it, but I'm not innocent, so keep it as long as possible.

Just cause once it's gone, you can't get it back. But I think It'd be bad to get married and have no experience.

I've heard that guys want to have sex with virgins more than other girls.
They think that since the girl's a virgin that the guy will be in total control and it'll make them feel powerful.
And they'll be so happy to know that they were your first.

So, I'd say, give your virginity up to someone you know that you love.
Even if it takes years to find.
I'm still a virgin, I'm 14; this shouldn't be rare!

I'm waiting until I think I'm totally ready to have a kid; just in case it happens.

Yea I don't get it either.

If I lose my virginity to someone, then I won't have sex with any other woman, which means I would only dedicate myself to one and ONE woman only.
