Why is my pomeranian not pregnant?

I bred my poms on 05/01/08 and they had 6 ties each lasting from 10-30 minutes. I took my female to the vet yesterday to have her examined to determine for sure that she was pregnant. She should be about 48 days along. The vet did an examination only (no x-ray or ultrasound) and said he didn't feel any puppies. Does this mean she is definitely NOT pregnant or would it be possible to miss with an exam only?

Could have been a miss...I had horse who only had a "physical feel" for pregnacy...the vet said...nope, she's not. She gave birth, 6 months later.

You girl may have only a couple pups, and at 48 days, they may be very hard to feel...go for an ultra-sound, or just wait...

I would do the X-ray but Poms only have a couple of pups and some don't even show until the couple of weeks. My Bostons carry their pups up in their chest area until the last couple of weeks and then the puppies drop.

If you only have one or two pups??? Vets are not always right. I had a vet feel around on my Boston last litter and tell me she had one large pup. I said she has 5 or 6 because that is how many nipples are swelling. He looked at me like I was crazy and I said "Old Wives Tale". he laughed at me. I said Xray her. You pay if I am right. He said your on. I won. She had 5 puppies in there.

It may be either too soon to tell or it could also be a miss. When my Chihuahua had her puppies about a year ago, the vet did an exam and swore that she only felt one . I told her, I swore that I thought they were two. When she did the x-ray, you could really only see one big puppy. I saw it too! When Gigi, whelped her puppies and we thought she was done, to our surprise, 15 minutes after Gizmo was delivered, Zoe my little Runt made her entrance. My vet was shocked! I would just give it a little time, and take her back and also have and x-ray or ultrasound done on her. Then you will know for sure!
