Why is he lying to me?

I work with a really cute guy and he flirts with me constantly. he told me he is single but the other day a girl came and visited him and kissed him. my friend also noticed that on his myspace it says hes in a relationship. after this girl left, he said he hated her and she was so annoying but he doesnt know how to get rid of her. (I thought it was pretty easy to get a rid of a girl...especially 4 guys because they definatly know how to be mean...??!) me & him have a lot in common and I really liked him...we had plans to hang out later this week...what should I do? should I stay away and not go out with him? why would he lie to me and how can I get the truth out?
