Why is "god" so cruel?

Thunder Robot Asked by funadvice 5 months ago, 24 answers.

I luv these religious debates.
I know some have got sick of so many, but it's more interesting than 'how pretty am I'.
So I was thinking...

My fiance is dying of cancer...there's no hope of recovery.
Obviously he is and will be suffering.
He's even more anxious cause of how it will effect me and his family.
He's the best thing that's ever happened to me and he doesn't deserve this.

So can the religious people on here expalin why 'god' would be so cruel?

Send this to a friend

There isnt a God. I gave up the idea of God when close friend died.. Some say 'The Lord works in mysterious ways' and etc. But I just cant buy that sh*t.

But Geriann, I wish you strenght for the upcoming!

god didnt do this, do you think out of the trillions of people in the world that he would only pick on your fiance,? and let him die? there is a reason for everything. dont you think that with the billions of dollars the government takes from our taxes and collects on us they could be putting all of that towards a cure for cancer? if god just snapped his fingers and made him healthy, then everyone would rely on him. there is no hell, earth is hell. when you die, all of your sins are washed away, and you see all of those people that died. and you live for eternity with them.

I have a question for you. Is your Fiance in a lot of pain? My grandfather recently died of cance. He didn't even bother to fight it because he knew he wouldn't win and he would rather be with God than in a lot of pain. Sometimes we don't understand or even like the way God works. It's sad. It makes me angry a lot. I have oftentimes railed at him, and tried to force my will upon him, but I guess I had to remember that he knows more than I do.

Thunder Robot Answered by funadvice on Mar 06, 2008, 06:25PM

apathic = I agree with you totally.

anotherday = no I'm not saying God singled my fiance out, of course not.
thousands of people die everyday of horrible illnesses and unjust reasons.
I just can't understand why God would let good people die in such a horrible way.
yes we're trying to find a cure for cancer...that's good...hopefully oneday we'll find one...but we may never find a cure for all of them.
in the mean time that doesn't solve why good people die.
isn't God ment to help everyone who prays to him?
we're ment to pray to him for help and cures etc.
good people should not have to suffer.
'earth is hell' - I agree with that.
you don't believe in hell?
how can you believe in heaven and God, but not hell?

torikeene = I'm very sorry to hear about your grandfather.
he's had some pain such as very bad headaches...it's a brian tumour.
obviously the pain and illness part will get worse.
he watched his mother die of cancer, so he knows the pain he will go through.

If man had of been obedient to God to begin with, he would have been protected from all the pain and suffering that are now part of our world. The first man and woman, lived in a perfect place, and had communion with God. Truly heaven on earth.

Did that satisfy them??? NO...

God gave one command...

They refused to even obey that one request.

When they disobeyed the one thing that God asked them to not do, they fell from their place of protection. They were then exposed to all the negative stuff that God was trying to protect them from.

We will have to live in this fallen world, with all its evils, and disease, until the time comes when God says, that is enough. He and only he knows when that time will come.

He tells us to look around us, and compare the times we live in, to his word, and to recognize when that time draws near.

Most Christians agree that we are in the time nearing the end, of life as we have known it. Change is on the horizon.

We need to prepare now, for what tommorrow will bring.

Well. I just want to say it as plain as simple as can be. What if you are just being selfish of what God's will should be. If Christ who is God's son suffered on that cross. Who are we to think we don't merit pain either. Pain is a suffering that should bring us closer to Christ as he had to suffer. You may not understand this wording. I can understand the dark side of your views. I could probably be doing the same if I were handed this same predicament. I can only say that you get to know Christ and God as you suffer. If you go a different direction with it then it's because you choose to view it that way (negatively). We are always selfish and want our loved one's to stick around longer than possible. Some have no choice because tomorrow I could be gone because of an accident. No one knows when their time is coming. Cherish the times you do have. You ultimately have something to gain after the fact. Knowledge in the study of Life.

Thunder Robot Answered by funadvice on Mar 06, 2008, 07:44PM

God doesn't take people's lives. God did not kill your friend, and God did not give your fiance cancer. God has nothing more to do with death than if you don't go to hell, you go to heaven, which is where he hangs out.

god didnt do this we did god let the oppurtunity be there and we as humans took it and your fiance is in pain because this is the devils world

Thunder Robot Answered by funadvice on Mar 07, 2008, 01:34PM

Babe , Gos id not cruel because your fiance is dying this was not his plan for him!!!

Satan is ruler over this earth it is satans plan to hurt you and your family!

Sickness and disease come from the devil and the devil alone

if anything there has been many MIRACLES were god has saved and cuerd people!!

My question to you is my would you accuse God and not the devil?
Why is it always god fault! when he gave us free will?

'Sickness and disease come from the devil and the devil alone'

Really? So all that business about virii, bacteria, genetic diseases, etc, is... what, precisely?

'if anything there has been many MIRACLES were god has saved and cuerd people!!'

So why never a single one that can actually be unambiguously identified as such? What has God got against amputees that _they_ never get miracle cures?

Thunder Robot Answered by funadvice on Mar 07, 2008, 06:31PM

many people don't get saved.
infact few miracles happen.
unfortuantly.
why are some people saved and some people not?

I think wether you blame the devil for the bad stuff that happens depends on the religion and the individually person.
for instance I recently 2 mormons came to my door...the usually trying to 'recruit' people...and I told them about the stuff that's happened and currently happening in my life.
I asked them why God would do this.
the only answers I got were 'God does things to test us' and 'God has a plan for everyone' and 'God will only save those who believe in him and pray for help and support'.
they never even mentioned Satan at all.
so why whas that if Satan causes all the bad things?

If god is omnipotent, how can you blame anything on satan anyway? Surely every evil results as much from god's inaction as it does from 'satan's' malice. Satan can only do anything if god permits it, right?

Not that this is any consolation, but I personally believe that before we are born we choose how long we will stay on this earth. I came to that conclusion when I too lost someone - a child in fact, only 22 hours old. I could not figure out why God would do this to me. After a large amount of soul searching the only logical conclusion that I could come to, like I said, is that we choose how long we will stay on this earth. I don't know who chooses how we will go, whether that is God or us before we are born. I am still debating that one with myself!!

people don't chooose when they die!
not unless it's suicide.
think of all the people in the world that die, but don't want to.
btw I am very sorry for your loss.
I had a misscarriage in 2001.
my mum had a baby years before me that died at 30 min's old.
so I understand your pain.

How do you really know that people dont chose when they die? Do you have any proof in the bible or anywhere that backs up your statement?
I stated that I BELIEVE people choose when they die. I sincerly believe this. Yes, there are people that die before they say want to, but I also believe they can choose to come back to earth in another form. I cannot tell you why we choose to do this, but again, this is just what I believe. I try not to make any statements that I cannot back up. I also believe that my son that died came back as my daughter who is the heathiest child I have ever seen and is almost 2 now.
I am all about gaining factual evidence to be proven right or WRONG. I do believe in God, but I also have other ideas that a lot of other Christians don't.
Thank you for not bashing me, its good to see that we can hold a debate and be adults about it. I see such the opposit in so many of these forums!

I too am into proof.
neither of us can totally prove something.
but that's ok, cause we're entitled to our own opinions.
I'm only nasty to people if they are to me.

NANCYISMYNAME
I'm guessing you're talking to me.
opinions of why people get cancer varies.
some believe God gives it...some believe satan gives it...some believe other things.
what do you believe?
I don't remember the bilble saying anything about cancer!
I'm not retarded in any way.
maybe you should learn to write, so people can understand your point of view.
btw the way you speak to people...well...you don't sound religious at all!

He just doesnt care, are prayers helpful? no, they only make that person feel useful, are prayers answered? no, we arent that important, in my opinion if more prayers were answered there would be more christians, does He comfort? not that I have ever been witness too.

He simply sees the need to take him into heaven. Do not mourn loses, but be happy that they (presuming they lead a life worthy of) would be better of in heaven.
