Why is anorexia classed as a disese when it dosn't spread?

I was just wondering why people say anorexia is a diesese when it can't spread ??

diabetese is a disease too and you can't spread it. diseases can be hereditary and eating disorders can be also

Because it can get so bad that it causes death.
In a way it does spread, at first its a small problem that can be fixed, and eventually it does grow into a much bigger problem that can no longer be controlled.
It completely changes the body of the person.
It is a disease, very much so.

Not all diseases spread. Contagious diseases spread. Example - lung cancer is a disease - but you can't catch it from someone else.

Aside from that, though, I think the true classification of Anorxia Nervosa is that its a mental disorder, meaning a disorder of the brain, and diagnosed by looking at a combination of characteristics.

You absolutely ARE anorexic, if it's true that you're 70 lbs and 5 ft 2. You say you don't want people to tell you to get help, it's your life, etc etc. but listen, if you had a friend who liked to cut herself and she kept asking you what the best razors were, would you just let her do it? Wouldn't you tell her that she needs to get the problem fixed before she harms herself? Well, binging and anorexia are exactly the same as cutting. in that your brain has become incapable of rational decisions and your perception is way out of whack. This problem will get worse -- so please talk to a professional. Even if not for help, just to see what a professional has to say.

Your loss of weight is the razor blade.

only getting 200 - 300 calories a day and doing insane amounts of exercise at the weight you are is anorexia. Loosing weight is for people who are morbidly obese, not morbidly underweight.

Everyone is right, anorexia is a disease of the mind much like schizophrenia, Dementia, obsessive compulsive disorder, post traumatic stress disorder etc... which of course you don't want to hear it, YOU think you're fine which is why it's dangerous and you need to get help.

Dilara, it's all the same thing. bingeing is part of it. You're not getting any fuel (nourishment).

Cancer is a disease, right? And you know it doesn't spread.

Anorexia is a disease to the mind. It doesn't spread, like bulimia or compulsive overeating.

It makes you think that you're overweight. I think my friend might have it. She's 100 pounds and never stops talking about her weight. She's still eating 1800-2000 calories a day, which is healthy.

I'm just worried because she's so thin, and thinks she's so fat at the same time.

eating disorders are a disease it may not spread but it is.. it is a mental diease...
just like ahcholism(sp), drug addictions, obsety (sp) those are all dieases but they dont spread

Eating disorders are NOT diseases. It's a mental disorder. Mental disorders are NOT diseases. They're mental disorders.

Good question but it actually does spread its a bad cycle of not only getting passed on with gentics but by society. Mentally people get the image that being skinny will in turn make you perfect therefore they strive to become perfect. So many girls pick this up from thinspiration sites like ana and mia. So really in a way it spreads just not like normal diseases

Because not all diseases are contagious. It's not like you can give cancer to other people. The definition of disease says nothing about spreading.

It's a MENTAL eating disorder, not a disease. Anyway, it DOES spread. You need help. Your starvation is getting too far.
