Why do we yawn when we are hungry or sleepy? What actually happens in our bodies for this to take place?

The most popular theory is that we are tired, so our brain needs more oxygen to work. So, we open wide and take in a lot of air so that more will get into our bloodstream and go to the brain. Sometimes, after somebody else yawns we do the same. This is because our minds are unconsciously immitating them. Weird, huh?
