What causes us to dream? I sit to do with what ever you thought about last before you went to sleep or is there more to it than that? Can anyone explain? I just find this topic very interesting. Thanks.

I know what you mean.
whatever or whoever I was thinking about before I go to sleep that's always what I dream about.
I like to wish that some of them mean something but it hasn't happened yet for me.

I believe that dreams reflect our current emotional state... and I think they they can be symbolic in that they sometimes tell us what we're thinking about even if we're not aware of it consciously = eg. preparing for a big event and you dream that everything goes wrong - so there's anxiety you're feeling and sometimes it just comes out in your dreams. I wonder if its sometimes the way our brain copes with high emotion?

Dreams are are brains way of sorting through our problems. anything that you push to the back of your mind or aer having a problem with, your brain trys to think through as you sleep(this happens with me).

Sometimes dreams mean nothing, you just dream about something you heard or someone mentioned a long time ago or breifly and you brain creates a story for you.=D

REM (rapid eye movement) only occurs when you're dreaming. Although some dreams seem to be only a few minutes long, they can actually last for hours.

Here's what happens with me: I can dream about something that I think about all day, or something that I was just thinking about or did before I slept. One more funny thing about me: if I fall asleep and someone turns on the tv in my earshot, I hear it in my dreams, I dream about it, and I can remember it clearly when I wake up.

For example, a few days ago, I was sleeping and my dad was watching the news in the living room (next to my room). They were talking about how too much cell phone use may lead to cancer (it was the first time my family had heard of it). I dreamed about it and when I woke up, my dad told me not to use my cell phone to much cause of the cancer theory, and I already knew. cool, huh? lol. this has been happening since I was like 9 or 10.

your dream is like a picture from your self cauntious (or how ever you spell it)if you have something on your mind you will probably drema about it or if you sleep with the tv on you will dream about what your watching because even when your sleeping your mind doesnt shut off and even your eyes still see things and your ears still hear things!

No body knows the true reason or function of sleep. Some believe we dream because it gives rest, others because refuge, some for balance of mind. Some can live without sleep, so what just is the reason we sleep, random fires from our nerves across our synapses.
