Why do people give up their virginity so young?

I call this ''Fat Cat''. Asked by randyo about 1 year ago, 59 answers.

Okay, my question is, why do girls and boys give up their virginity SO young.
I mean, their like practically babies.
There was on girl on here who agve it up at age 11.
And that REALLY scares me because I have a cousin that's 11 years. old!
My question...

is, just, WHY?!!!

I mean, being a virgin is a VERY special thing. At least it is to me. And personally, I'm proud of myself for maintaining my virginity this long. And I'm only 14!

And I know a lot of people who gave up their virginity really young.
Like with my 15 yr. old cousin Brittney, gave it up at 13.

And my mom at age 16.
And I know that there is a lot of pier pressure and I have pier pressur on me too, but I just think about the consequences and I snap out of it.
I've NEVER even considered giveing my virginity up before I'm married. It;s just WAY too special.

So people who didn't give it up so young, you can answer too.
But I'd really like for people who DID give it up young to answer, so that I know why you did.

I gave sex up at 16, I dont know if that is
young for you but I have now been with the guy
for 1 year, we had sex because we
both felt ready , thats really the only reason.
But like 14 year olds getting pregnant is a little
too crazy

Sadly, some people JUST DON'T CARE...

1. Because they're IN LOVE, of course.
2. Because they're stupid and don't know any better.

Aside from peer pressure, those are the two main reasons. Some girls also like to think of themselves as more mature than boys - thanks to the hype - and therefore believe they're justified to have sex at a young age. They usually do it with older boys and they really believe sex is a declaration of love. Young boys tend to do it because they've been led to believe that they're not man enough if they've never done it to a girl.

Thankfully, when I was young I didn't have to deal with this issue because I was raised in a very Christian (and generally conservative) environment. Maybe my friends had heard a little bit of this and that from an undoubtedly unreliable source, but sex was something we never discussed out loud. And back then we didn't have Google or FunAdvice - so we were literally in the dark. Even my brother didn't know what mas*urbat*on was when he was fourteen. I don't think he ever found out until he was seventeen. Very sad, but even sadder are people who give up their virginity so young for no reason at all.

P.S. Judy Blume - a writer who used to be a lot more famous than she is today - said her parents told her to wait until she was either married or twenty-five to do anything. I think that's a pretty good rule of thumb. Why aren't parents today more like her? And so I must add:

3. Because their parents never had the talk with them.

First of all, I must say, Way to go! You should be proud to be a virgin! Keep that pride with you when you're being pressured. The only answers I can give is that they see it on television and think it's cool.

Another reason I believe a lot of young people are having sex at young ages is because of peer pressure and sex education. Sex education is worthless anymore, at least around my area. They are being taught how to put on condoms instead of being taught to wait and that premarital sex can be hazardous to their health.

I can attest to peer pressure being a big problem with sex before marriage, etc. I was pressured and sadly, gave in. It wasn't at a very young age, but 20 isn't very old either. Instead of holding true to my beliefs, I gave in to stop his nagging about it. I have regretted that decision (or lack of decision) since.

Again, you should be very proud of yourself and stay true to yourself! It's a hard world out there and people are just waiting to get to you. I hope I've answered your questions well enough and I pray that people like you continue to put their beliefs and their heart first before jumping into bed with someone.

a lot of people "don't care" because they don't realize how important it is until after it actually happens.

Dear randyo,
Well first of all there is some confusion...not everyone who says they gave it up did. Recent studies show that over 1/2 who say they did didn't. Why? Peer pressure and the old adage "well everyone is doing it" So you can't believe everything you hear. Years ago we were getting married much younger and years ago women unfortunately felt they didn't think they had the power to say no. Today, women have this power and are exercising it. Of course you are getting some who believe that everyone is doing it and do it. These are the ones who regret their decision when they find out the truth. Hopefully soon the age of consent will also be raised making it a criminal offence.
Sue...good luck

1. Some people want to feel loved because they don't have the greatest family life so sleep around because they feel wanted. I have a friend who did this and lost hers at 12!

2. Ok I recently kind of left my friendship group because they were pathertic and have these weird little competitions to see who can be the sluttiest and who can loose their virginity first! They are only 15 and 16 and it seemed crazy to me so I left! But yeah I guess it's kind of them thinking it makes they mature or something and also peir pressure.

3. I know a guy who got so pissed he lost his at 15 with a not so good looking girl but he now regrets it.

4. They just don't care because everyone around them did it so they just think it's normal and that it's not precious

5. They have major hormone problems and are just so turned on that they want to do it with pretty much any hot person that's willing!

6. People find it fun to break the law! And well I guess it's one of the easiest laws to break!

Yes, the social press an curiosity is really important, and many of these girls will mind that they lost their virginity so early. But if you are healthy, and your female hormones work well, and your character is not inhibited/anxious type, and you can find the right person (this is important), you may start your sexual life at 16 yo. But if you are virgin longer than your 18 yo I do not find it totally healty.

Yeah, some people LIKE sex at a young age, but just because they LIKE it doesn't mean that they're READY for it.
And if they get pregnant, then they'll really regret it.
And at the ages 13-17, are the ages a girl is most ABLE to get pregnant. That's why almost every time someone gives it up that young, they DO get pregnant.
Because they don't realize the responsibilities and conseuences of sex until it's too late.

I think that you should stop caring about everyone elses personal life and just stay focused on your own. People loose their virginity for many different reasons. I personally gave mine up because I love this boy and I was ready. I dont think that it really matters what age you are...just as long as those people are aware of what they are doing and what the outcome is going to be. I personally know that loosing my virginity at 16 to my boyfriend was a decision that I will never regret. As long as people are careful and are ready I see no problem in loosing their virginity. And for another point, I dont think it really matters what you and others think about sexually active teenagers because you havent experienced that feeling yourself so you wouldnt understand. And I dont think that its very polite to put people down on their personal lives, especially on here when people come to get advice to make it better. They already have enough judgement and critisim from people like you.

pple give it up so young because some just dont care, they dont value or see their virginity as anything important or worth saving, or some do it because they think they really love the person their with and want to show them that through sex and giving up their virginity

Well, age 17 is okay. 17+ is fine. But it's just girls and guys like 11-16 that annoys me.
