Why do the british hate americans?

Why do the british hate Americans? I went to England recently and it seemed like all the British hate the Americans.

one reason could be, because, generally you're a bunch of arrogant idiots......imagine that, idiots who are actually arrogant. Really bad at geography, spelling, and the sad part is, most Americans really could not care less to rectify this. After all, why should they, right?

oh dear god, just look at the answers Americans give, they speak for themselves! The only 'free country?' What is wrong with you people? You really think a lot of yourselves! If anything, as a New Zealand citizen, I have far more freedom than you do! You cant even buy alcohol until you're twenty one!

The reason so many countries have problems with Americans is because they think they are better than everyone else and they treat us like we are inferior. Until Lord of the Rings was released, only 14% of Americans had any idea my country existed and even now, most Americans probably cant get their heads around the fact that New Zealand is not part of Australia.

If you want to be more well liked, be less assuming, stop thinking you're always right, make an effort to learn about the world outside America (yes, it does exist, shocking isnt it? and when you travel, do not expect the world to change to accomodate you.

Because they are still sore we were not sissies like the Canadians, Aussies, NZlanders, Indians, etc...yes, imagine that I'm an American and I know my history!! They hate us because it takes all of Europe to come close to being as powerful as America. They hate us because they rather believe what their liberal govts. tell them instead of think for themselves. I say, F them! GOD BLESS AMERICA!

To 'whocarez,' just as you do not care about my country, I do not care about metallica, or skateboarding, or anything else you mentioned. Reeally not jealous, my country is so much more beautiful with a much better way of life and so much more freedom is expression. Oh, and other countries actually like us! What a strange, foriegn concept that must be to you!

'redskinsfan,' if we're such sissies, compare our national sport with your 'sissie' american football. Also remember we were the first country in the world to declare war on germany and we actually take a stand against things that are important to us, eg. nuclear power.

I am an American and I do know why everyboyd hates us. We started a war with Iraq. Many people are getting killind because of what we did. Americans are violent, we're spoiled, and frankly, we're too arrogant for are own kind. We think we are the best thing to happen to the world. I can understand why people hate Americans, but that is where they fall ignorant. You say you hate Americans. Do you hate us or do you hate the idiot running America. And if you ever had to go through their public education system you would gain a much better perspective on why there is such high rate of illiteracy. As for America being the richest country, only a very small percentage of the population is what you would consider wealthy. Your average American Citizen lives in a constant state of anxiety due to the atrocities commited by their own Government, we have been lied to, minipulated, used and robbed by our own Government and we are only just recently coming to understand just how bad this situation is. I only hope enough of us wakeup before it is to late.

I would hate to think that the whole American population would be judged by those that have personal traits that would be less than tolerable to anyone. I for one would hope that I would be judged for who I am, not the whole American population. I have a great respect for, and interest in all cultures. I think that we can learn a great deal from other cultures. I feel our leaders are giving Americans in general a bad name. Please get to know us as individuals.

question is a bit of a generalisation really. Most British people probably don't hate Americans. I, for one certainly don't, infact if you look back at recent British history we would be in a sorry state without the aid America supplied to us, as in the second world war etc. They, the American people and government have been our strongest allie for years, they speak the same language and still use the imperial measurement system, unlike us British, who have aligned ourselves with the yellowbacked european jackasses we call the EEC! One thing you notice if you visit the US is their patriotism, they fly their flag with pride, we dare not fly ours for the fear of upsetting some obscure political or religious sect! We, the British look after murderers and rapists and terrorists, the Americans put them away for good. God bless America, I hope we move closer to you and away from the french and germans our natural enemies for years.

I have hated every single American I have ever met, I mean, I'd like to go there someday, maybe you guys just act differently abroad...
I realize that not everyone has the patience with a slightly hesitant, low-key individual such as I, but in my experience yanks have unfailingly tended towards the loud, brash and obnoxious.

What is that lad talkin about? British people are equally free, like Americans. This is the reason why a lot of other countries dont like them, cause they continuously go on about how great they are, and 'think' other countries are second best to them *laughs out very loud* The majority have to be 'seen and known' when in other countries. Where as Brits are more like, 'We dont give a ***, just give us that hot weather!' I partly agree with some people on here, but generally speaking I think there customer service is very good, and they always come with a smile :D xxx

Wow. As an American, it makes me really sad to learn that people think such horrible things about us. Terrible at spelling? Where did that come from?? I've never heard such a thing. Arrogant? Well, aren't there some arrogant people everywhere? It is not fair to say that all american's are arrogant...Is there not a single arrogant British person?? Anyway, we aren't all stupid either. I don't where that idea came from either. Sure- there are some considerably dumb people hear, but then there are tons more who are very intelligent. Once again, are you saying nobody in England has a below average IQ? If so, I doubt the accuracy of that claim. Also, I'm not sure why everyone thinks American's know nothing about geography. We take geography in school just like everyone else. We ARE most certainly aware of the countries around us. Just because our current president (I don't even want to type his name) is the most clueless idiot on the planet, doesn't mean we are. In fact, the majority of American's despise that---man?

I must say, for people who say we are arrogant, you seem to be the arrogant ones---thinking you are so much smarter than us...what exactly does that make you...?? I've never heard such ridiculous stereotypes in my entire life, and it makes me physically ill.. Honestly, it is a complete and utter disgrace. I hope the future brings a new understanding, because this is ludicrous.
