you only have 5 churches in your whole town? I have 6 within a mile from my apartment. we all just need to be tolerant of everyone else's beliefs. you can't expect someone to respect your boundaries if you don't respect theirs.
yes- I do not follow christ or his beliefs- but I have plenty of friends that do- they cannnot tell me matter of factly that what they believe is the truth- as I cannot beyond a shadow of a doubt proclaim my beliefs as the absolute truth.
we are friends not from a religious standpoint- but from a tolerance of each others personal beliefs. it simply is not an issue. as long as someone doesn't come to my door preaching- the world turns.
yes we can all coexist with different beliefs- and the followers of christ need to accept this and live with it, and give the atheists their deserved space to do as they need to.
I really doubt you would see a riot if it was a peaceful and legal gathering. . . . I myself wouldn't care to bother it.
Im an athiest, and when ever I have a meating of any sort, lots of catholics come to protest my 'devils work'. I do not ridicule any other religion, in fact I love that people think diffrent things then I do because it makes our world colorfull. But why do athiests seem to be the center of hate for christian relegions?
If you are a christian please explain this to me
Or any other religion for that matter! Im happy to hear opinions
Where I live, a public atheist meeting would certainly be met with protests and death threats. That's already happened to the few pagan groups who tried to assemble peaceably.
That said, not all Christians are present at these protests and certainly not all support those actions. As rnealw shows, many people are 'live and let live.'
Atheists have long been considered the devil's servants and immoral people. Because we are so badly misunderstood, we often get targeted in this way. Old prejudices do die hard. That is why I come to these places online and talk about my beliefs and feelings. I'd like for people to see that I'm not evil. I'd like for them to know that they don't have to agree with anything I say to let me live in peace. I'd like for them to realize that we share many of the same hope and fears as everyone else.
*also know that if there were a gathering of all of the atheists ... once a week... there would be a HUGE riot of religious people protesting the atheists presence*
how do you KNOW that there would be a huge riot of religious people? you cant judge so easily
In my area there are a couple of small groups of athiests who meet weekly. To my recolection there has never been one protest against them. I happen to be a Christian, so I would have heard about it. (My pastor feels real anger when people are mistreated whatever their beliefs)
You know, it might be fun to test your theory. Why not start up a meetup of atheists in your area and see if anyone protests?

Why do I get the feeling...?
The town I live in has atleast 5 churches in it. I have never seen an athiest outside of one protesting against the church. It's not that there are no atheists in the town, either. I know plenty. I also know that if there were a gathering of all of the atheists ... once a week... there would be a HUGE riot of religious people protesting the atheists presence. Now, I know that not ALL religious people would do this... but I don't understand why some would have the nerve to get up and protest agains the atheists when we let them have their church service in peace... and tolerate their stupid bells every single Sunday.
