Why did my dog bite me?

Asked by danielle26 about 1 year ago, 3 answers.

I am very upset. My 6 mo. old puppy(who is quite Large)viciously bit me and tried to take off my arm. This is not a joke. I am very good with my puppy. He gets lots of exercise, walks, I am training him to do tricks. I give positive reinforcement with...

treats. He is not neglected and I have never had a problem really with him. He got into the garbage and I tried to take away what he had and he attacked me. He tried to take off my arm. He left my arm with Large welts and bruises and broke through my skin. Although it hurt, I cried because I couldn't believe all the time I have spent with my pet meant nothing. He just attacked me. He repeatedly kept trying while I was taking him outside after he bit me. Does anyone have any advice?I don't want to get rid of him, but I have 4 very small children and I am afraid of him possibly doing that to them. He has never attacked them, but then again he never attacked me either. I love him so much and I am so hurt he did this, I don't want to give him away but I can't trust him now either. Should I try obediance class or give him to a rescue organization. Even if I take him to obedience class, how will I know he won't do it again. I never thought he would attack me like that, especially being a Golden retriever!

Maybe it's hurt or something I had a cat that was like honestly my bestfriends and never bit me and then one day I went to pet him and he like attacked my hand. But I looked real close I saw that he had been shot with a bebe gun (dont know if thats how you spell that)
But look really close and press on spots to see if he' s hurt he may have internal bruise or maybe it cut somewhere that may be why he's acting odd.

Hope This Helps

Every dog is teritorial over their prized pocession that they have found. Be it a nice leather shoe they dug up somewhere, or something not so pleasant they found in the trash. Now I have two very small Pomeranians, and you wouldn't think that they would be vicious, and they're not. But if you try to take something away from them like food or a bone, they will growl. Also, dogs are more likely to bite when they are younger because they don't know their strenghts yet (much similar to a teenage boy). Dogs are smarter then people give them credit for though. When my dogs used to bite me I would show it to them and they knew that they had done wrong. I would say that your dog will deffinately grow out of this stage. However, having small children may be different, a lot of dogs are intelligent enough that they won't play rough with small children. My 100 lb. German Shepherd knows better than to play rough with our 4 lb. pomeranians, and though he likes to jump on people, he is cautious around children. So I guess it depends on your dog. You would have a better guess then anyone else. The only other thing that I would say is that if at any point you feel uncomfortable with the way he acts around your children, then maybe you should find a different home for him. He may hurt them unintentionally and it deffinately wouldn't be worth it to keep him in that case.
