Why did bhp and billiton merge?

me on a good day Asked by mr_super123 over 2 years ago, 1 answer.

i am doing some research in preperation for my end of year business management unit 3+4 exam, and am looking at examples of mergers.

i would like to know if anyone knows reasons for the merger between Australia's Broken Hill Proprietary Company (BHP)...

and the UK's Billiton.
additional information on outcomes resulting from the merger may help aswell, such as what has been gained or lost from the merger etc.

thanks.

Hi,

Firstly, the merge meant a significant dilution of Australian control of one of the nation's biggest industrial landmarks.

In a 2001 report, the chief executive of BHP, Paul Anderson, said We have determined it should be a global natural resources company.
