Why cant you sink in quicksand this way?

By raising your legs slowly and laying on your back, you cant sink in quicksand. this is true but why?

Quicksand is like water happy
By relaxing and leaning back you gradually start to float to the surface.
It isn't usually that deep anyway : ]
