Why are nerds addicted to the internet?

I mean I get on it every now and then when Im bored, but I'll see people for like ever!! Why dont they get off and go to sleep?? Why is it so addicting??

I Addicted To The internet But I not A nerd...Its because the internet has allot to offer game and ect..stuff like that and at time it can get addicted but when I see something I like such as clothes shoes or something like that I like to say on because it catches my attention..thats probally why..

When you have kids you cant always be hanging out with friends, it saves you money if I wasnt able to go on the computer id be shopping all the time lol. It has multiple things you can do as in Games, music, information and being able to talk to friends.

I think it sometimes does more harm then good. People loose there social skills and how to entertain themselves without a computer, game and so on. I still enjoy the outdoors or reading a book before the computer. I hope more people choose to be more active in their lives. I do feel this is one of the reason's of Obesity in people and our children.

For me, the internet is a thing of convinience. For example:

~I call my family on skype for free- they live on the other side of the world, and toll calls can be expensive where I am.
~I can hit a button and get my groceries delivered- I don't drive so I can't carry more than a week's groceries from the shop, and often the delivery charge is less than the bus/train/taxi fare.
~I can do my banking, organise my expenses, etc.
~Buy music off Itunes I can't get in stores

I'm a self proclaimed geek and proud. I love the internet and all the ways it makes life easier. However, no-one spends all their time online. I've associated with some pretty hardcore gamers/geeks/nerds, and they all sleep for vast periods of time, cook, go out and socialise, work full time jobs etc.

Furthermore, my husband is a real geek- so much so, he works for Google. He spends a lot of time online doing actual work, because it's his job. You'll find that plenty of geeks have some type of work they are actually required to do online.
