Several psychological theories, the biological model believes it is because of an imbalance of neurotransmitters in the brain, the cognitive theory is basically faulty thinking, and the behavioral theory is basically you get into a cycle of behaviors that promotes depression.
Personally I think its a bit of all of them... your neurotransmitters are a little messed up, you start thinking negatively, so you start into a pattern of behavior that reinforces your thinking, and you end up with depression...
Ok, so to put it simply, your brain is a little out of balance... It happens...
GO TO A DOCTOR YOU COULD HAVE DEPRESSION,ESPECIALLY IF IT IS OVER NOT JUST BIG HAPPINIGS BUT SMALL DAY TO DAY EVENTS AND SOMETIMES LASTS FOR A WEEK OR LONGER OR
