Why do sites always send confirmation emails?

why is it when you sign up to something it is always sent to your email its anoying what if you couldnt log into msn like me?

I'm not much of an expertise at this~
but I'll assume it's to prevent botting programs that create multiple accounts for exceptional reasons like...
sending spam and such?

or like the other people said, to confirm who you are.

If that's really a problem for you, you should create a new email account, like Google or Yahoo Mail. Then you can supply that address instead, and still receive the emails.
