That's incorrect. Maurice Greene has gone under 10 seconds in the hundred meters numerous times and he is only 5'9. Bruny Surin, from Canada, went under 10 seconds several times and was 5'11. Tyson Gay, the American record holder at 9.77, is only 5'11. Olusoji Fasuba from Nigeria's best time is 9.85, and he is listed as 165 cm or 5'5 (http://www.iaaf.org). Ato Bolden, great at both the 100 and 200 meter distances is only 5'9. Shawn Crawford, also great at both 100 and 200 meters is listed at 181 cm, though he always looked shorter then that when he stood next to other sprinters. Justin Gatlin in particular comes to mind, who stands 185 cm, or 6'1 and Crawford always looked a good 3 to 4 inches shorter. And if Tim Montgomery is 5'10, then I'm 6'6. He was never even taller than his ex-wife, Marion Jones. In short, their have been a lot of sprinters in the modern era (after the widespread use of electronic timing) who have been both short (as defined by their height relative to the population in general) and have run under 10 seconds, Olosuji Fasuba being the most notable, for his diminutive 5'5 stature.
