In this new batman film, joker doesn't get defeated not yet anyway. But in the original it was batman. So I'm assuming maybe in the next batman film it will be batman who defeats him. Other then that it could be the commissioner in the next movie maybe, just a guess?

Yeah he is still alive... but Nobody will be good enough to be better then ledger at the joker in this day and age... sad now the next batman wont be as good...
