From my experience, mutts have had better health in the general sense. Many purebreds are quite inbred, so the faults of their breeds become very prominent (ie. hip displaysia). I have two mutts and they're both the picture of health. No inbreeding here.
On the contrary, I've heard some breeders say that purebreds are better because you know their lineage and where they are coming from, and the health of their parents. I believe this is true in some instances ---in many, breeders are irresponsible and inbreed their dogs over and over just to make puppies for profit, and the health of the dogs usually suffer.
It depends solely upon what you are looking for in a dog. Of course if you plan on showing or breeding it, it is probably better to have a purebred dog. Mixed breeds DO tend to be healthier, but they are also less likely to come from a reputable breeder with a health guarentee in many cases. If you are just looking for a buddy, then mixed breeds are great. The only bad thing about a mixed breed is that you usually can't tell what their temprement will be like, whereas with a breed you can look on the internet or in a book and see easily, for example, that labrador retrievers tend to be great family pets or that chiuhuauas aren't generally good with little kids. If you have a mix, you may not be able to tell what kind of temperment it will have. So it honestly just depends on your preferences.

Which is better, a purebred or a mixed dog?
All around, which kind of dog is better and why? I heard mixes are better 'cause they can fight off diseases better, but I'm not sure if that's true. Is it?
I'd rather get a mix, but that's just me.
