I used to be very hard on people and rarely gave them a second chance. Then I did a bunch of meth... I am very tolerant of lapse's in judgement now. I think that Jesus dude did have a good point about casting the first stone...

Nobody is perfect, everyone does bad things they later regret including people who are generally good.

You can't judge a person from a single action.

Everyone makes mistakes. I think everyone deserves a second chance

We are all imperfect - we shouldn't think less of another person because 'there but by the grace of God, go I' - thankful there is forgiveness if we but ask.

Well...if they took the last cookie, no biggie. If they killed my dog, that's a biggie.

people make mistakes. when you say they're a good person, I'm assuming you mean that in general they do good things, you can't judge a person from one bad act.

Obviously it is going to depend on what they did. If it is something relatively minor then I'm inclined to give them a second chance. If, however, it is something serious (like murder, child molestation or armed robbery) then I am less likely to forgive and forget because their personal values are so contrary to the morals of society.

Things like drug use and prostitution, they don't bother me because they (excluding harm to themselves) are victim less crimes. Whereas repeat offenses of DWI lower my respect for an individual because they demonstrate a total lack of respect and responsibility for the lives of others.

When a good person does something real bad, I try to forgive him/her but, sometimes that doesn't work.
I just don't remain with that person and move on.

I agree with what people are saying. I have another thought too: have you ever met someone who was just too good to be true? I always feel relieved when I see someone like that loose their temper just once, or whatever, because I get to see that they are showing their real self, and not hiding behind a 'good' facade. It's really sad if people feel they have to wear their 'good' mask all the time, and not let us see the real person, 'warts and all'.
