Whats with "emo"?

Why the flip does everyone want to be an emo?!?!

Why would you want to be a low-life scum like that?

Emo's are over dramatic, skeet loads, who dont know the difference between being depressed and a grapefruit.

So tell me, please, why the hell does...

everyone want to look and/or become emo?

Not everyone wants to look or become 'emo". Also its not right to be calling these people "low-life scum". They all have names and different qualities, good and bad. Sure some of these people may be depressde and dramatic but there is most likley a reason behind that, maybe a bad child hood or bad home life, you never know. So dont just judge those people and call them low-life scum, they are human just like you and if thats the way they want to be, then leave them alone.

Being emo isn't always a bad thing you know.
If that's the way they choose to be so be it.

That is true with some of them but I know some people who have had a bad childhood that have resorted to becoming "emo".

the ones that have a bad childhood are "clinicly depressed" and even tho they have a right to be that way, they still shouldnt resort to being emo. my best friend, has been thrown in and out of his parents life so much, he is almost ALWAYS depressed, but yet he doesnt go cutting himself. but what really pisses on my face, is the fact that a lot of people want to become "emo" because they think it looks cool, or because they think they are depressed, but what they are just exagerating over spilled milk.

Of course no one should resort to cutting themselves even if they have a reason, but you still shouldnt nag on the people who are just emo because they look cool. If thats what they want to be leave them alone and let them live their own life.

emos are not overdramatic. we just like to be more in touch with our emotions and dont care who knows whether we're feeling sad, happy or murderous. emo is really just a state of feeling.

I think that some people are just doing it because it's currently in fashion. However if people truly are emos, then let them be. We all inhabit this planet and to live in it successfully tolerance is required.

probably because of people like who who judge everything by the opinons of other people
cutting is not emo, cutting is self harm
everyone gets emotional, and all that over rated depressed thing has nothing to do with emo
depression is an ILLNESS that needs help to be cured
you, among many other people still dont know the meaning of the word

jazlovestoskate is right, dont associate emo with self harm...emo is a type of music and people that dress "emo" are just like those people who dress rock style or rap or w/e. its what kind of music they like and how they like the look. so if you dress like a wannabe gangster because you like rap should everyone start saying.."oh what a loser why did he resort to this and cutting himself" because thats what your doing.

Emo (pronounced /ˈiːmoʊ/) is a style of hardcore punk which describes several variations of music with common roots. In the mid-1980s, the term emo described a subgenre of hardcore punk which originated in the Washington, D.C. music scene. In later years, the term emocore, short for "emotional hardcore", was also used to describe the emotional performances of bands in the Washington, D.C. scene and some of the offshoot regional scenes such as Rites of Spring, Embrace, One Last Wish, Beefeater, Gray Matter, Fire Party, and later, Moss Icon. (In more recent years, the term "emotive hardcore" entered the lexicon to describe the period.)

Starting in the mid-1990s, the term emo began to refer to the indie scene that followed the influences of Fugazi, which itself was an offshoot of the first wave of emo. Bands including Sunny Day Real Estate and Texas Is the Reason had a more indie rock style of emo, more melodic and less chaotic. The so-called "indie emo" scene survived until the late 1990s, as many of the bands either disbanded or shifted to mainstream styles. As the remaining indie emo bands entered the mainstream, newer bands began to emulate the mainstream style. As a result, the term "emo" became a vaguely defined identifier rather than a specific genre of music.

There is really nothing wrong with being 'emo' its a choice people make and I know people who are 'emo' and they are actually cool people no matter what people think...its not cool but really, what is? Anerexia? Bulimia? thats what the 'cool' popular people in society (models and of the such, not all but you know..) if they want to be emo let them be its really nobodies business but their own..and I find them to be cooler in some ways then the 'preps' and the other types of cliques
