Studies have demonstrated that over the age of 40 almost 50% of women will experience infertility. Because fertility in women decreases with advancing age, prompt evaluation and aggressive treatment are critical in infertile women over the age of 40. This may not be the same in your case but you are still at risk for your child to have a birth defect. Some women reach metopause at age 35 and others at age 50. Women who are at the age of 50 still menstruating technically means that they are able to bear children however, the higher the age for the mother the increased chance of a birth defect. Take these factors into account when deciding with your husband. If you feel you both are physically and mentally ready for another child at your age then by all means go for it. The world needs more caring and loving parents.
