I prefer YAZ, it does everything the commercial says it will do, including all of the stuff about PMDD! It's wonderful, and I take it straight for 3 months so I don't have a period, then I only have one 4 times a year! I have also tried Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo too, and it made me nautious all the time! I have only heard bad things about the patch, so I have never tried it. Depo Provera is a shot that you get once every 3 months, and in most cases, you no longer have a period, or just light spotting. I was on that for 2 years and liked it up til the end when I was lightly spotting for 1 month straight! My doctor told me that the shot could cause significant bone loss if you stay on it for more than 2 years at a time, so I went on the pill. I have not experienced weight gain on either of these like I had heard about. Your doctor can tell you about all of the different ones though! This is just what has worked for me!

I tried the Depo Provera shot and I didn't have periods for the time I was on it, and even for 3 months after. I also gained A LOT of weight. I weighed 115 lbs. and had NEVER had any problems with weight before then, and right after I gained 65 lbs. Depo Provera has also been linked to some cases of infertility. But not everyone is the same so the Depo shot might be okay for you. Hope this helped. Good luck and Be safe.

I wouldn't recommend Loestrin 24 fe. It's been horrible for me! My period lasts for 2 weeks at a time I HATE it. From what heathershaw is saying, I think I want to switch to Yaz. But honestly, it's all about trial and error! You have to find what's right for you. Everybody's different! Hopefully the first one you try will work so you don't have to deal with all the possible side effects.

Good Luck!

I prefer and use Ortho Cyclen.

Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo gave me horrible mood swings and depression.

You really can't tell how you'll react to BCPs and their level of hormones until you try them and it usually takes 3 months to get used to them. So I don't think there is a best one since every woman varies. So it's best to seek the advice of a gynecologist. (in order to get BCPs you'll need to start having annual exams anyway.)

IUDs are the most effective but they also have other risks.

I've tried pills because I personally dont like the idea of not getting my period because its to hard to tell if your pregnant if your period just isnt normally their you can find out about specifics from the clinique about whats more effective and stuff but I want to try an intra uterine divice they put it inside of youand it will last like 5 years because I have a hard time remembering the pill pluse the UTI is suposta be lower hormone so your less likely to have a bad reaction your can also have a doctor take it out whenever you want it out and its suposta be really effective

I think the best birth control is not to have sex..lol jk, for me the best one is PARAGARD its like the IUD called MIRENA but it last longer then MIRENA, its hormone free and its affective for 10 years, yea yea you will get your period every month (for those that do want their monthly period) the first few months will be heavy periods but they will regulate when your body adapts to it.
