Is it better to be induced after passing due date?

Asked by fau 8 months ago, 4 answers.

After you pass your "due date" for pregnancy, is it better to have them induce you, or just wait it out?
I've had a friend who waited it out and was six weeks over her due date, but she and the baby were perfectly healthy.
I'm not asking for any facts,...

im just asking whats your opinion.

it depends on the size of the baby and it is really up to your gp.

my opinion is your friend is a liar! your doctor will not let you go any more than 2 weeks past your due date. not only will the baby be much to big, but the placenta function starts to deteriorate, and so it would be a huge huge huge risk to carry a baby any more than 42 weeks. but as far as a regular pregnancy, if your past your due date, and the doctors want to induce you, it really is the best option because they do that to make sure your baby is safe. besides, by that point in your pregnancy, you are so uncomfortable most women are begging their docs to induce them.

My friend was not a liar, she had a midwife, and the placenta showed no sign of deterioration. The baby was 10 pounds, 6oz.
And not all women hate pregnancy, although it is uncomfortable.
she believes in the more natural and old fashioned way of doing things.
Her other baby was born at home also.
