Whats a pelvic exam?

Whats a pelvic exam. I told my mentor that I was raped and she to;d my mother. Now my mom is taking me to get a pelvic exam and I dont know what it is

A pelvic exam is just a gynecological examination.

Usually it involves a look at the external area, checking for sores, discharge, or anything that could indicate a sexually transmitted infection etc. Then, they may use a speculum (a long metal instrument inserted into the vagina, which is then opened slightly after insertion) to take a look at your cervix. I'm guessing they're just checking o see if there's any infection or damage.

You'll be absolutely fine, these tests are done on millions of women a year, whether they are sexually active or not. It doesn't take long, usually only about five minutes. It can be a bit awkward if it's your first exam, just try to relax.
