Dear justaquestion1,
Don't use either one. A burn can easily become infected and nothing but a bit of soap and water...then cover with a breathable bandage with something like Polysporin or Ozonol. Butter put on a hot burn will continue to cook on the burn making it worse. Tooth paste dries out the burn and that's the last thing you want.
Sue...good luck
For a serious burn, immediately cool it with cool water then go to the ER.
For minor burns I cool it with cool water than apply aloe. I like to use real aloe from a plant. I cut about a 1" piece of leaf, cut the edges so I can open it up, then I rub it on the area or squeeze some juice out. I haven't found anything that works any better than aloe though sometimes it stings a bit.
definately cool it with cool water.
NEVER use ice, butter, toothpaste, ointment, etc. these are horrible for a burn.
If it's a small burn like on your hand or finger or just a small patch. you can wet a piece of gauze and put it on it.
If it's a larger burn put a piece of dry gauze on it and I suggest going to have it checked out.
Trust me on this...I'm an EMT-B =)

Which works best on burns?
I have tried toothpaste and im not sure if it works I think I put it on too late and 1 of my friends said butter only works!!!
which works better
