More or less we fear what we don't understand. Imagine yourself as a white person who grew up in the 1930's. This is the heart of racism against black people.
Also, think of walking around town naked all day. People would stare at you. It'd be so awkward and embarrassing.
It's like that for the racist white guy who grew up in the 1930's. Being naked is odd and, well unacceptable in our society. Being black was odd and unacceptable then. If the racist person were to be friends with a black person, it would embarrass them and make them feel awkward, as if they are doing something wrong.
And as for today, some people believe that some races are physically better than others.
Or maybe you view your own race only and don't consider other races. I actually noticed this not too long ago... When I was younger I was kind of a romanticist. The kind of girl who dreams of boys all the time. I never imagined a boy who wasn't white. Isn't that strange. I'm white myself. It's an odd assumption and instinct we have as humans I guess. Maybe it's just with white people; I don't know.
Every generation will get more and more accepting.
It's just like every generation will get smarter.
Remember way back before electricity was invented?
Or when Egyptians believed the Sun was God?
Times are changing. You don't have to worry because a majority of the people are on your side now, if you are having trouble with racist people.

I dont think it's about having a point. People are prejudiced because they were raised prejudiced and that's what they know. Why some people stay prejudiced and why others learn differently I dont know.
